How actually do you feel?

I would expect that to be as much a relief as it’s a pain.

Our last chat at the station told me a lot about how work was affecting you. I can empathise. It sounded like a shit place to work at the time and seems to have gotten worse.
You are good enough to do your own thing and really are better out of that environment.

Look upon this as the push you needed.

So you are not going back
(Apart from picking up your tools if you left any there)
(And the coffee stuff of course)

I doubt that you can officially work but is a great opportunity to get things set up.

Bummer

Would it be worth going for one of these business loans they are giving out with 18 months interest free, and go it alone

Very sorry to hear that Richie, but you’ve got 6 months breathing room, and clearly you haven’t been happy for a long time.

Request still stands for a tweed suit, but it has to be clearly labelled as your work :grinning:

It would be interesting to know exactly what part of your job is redundant, are they moving away from bespoke tailoring then?

Yes, having screwed up the idea of making a profit at it, they’ve decided to make me redundant because it doesn’t make a profit. :joy:

On one hand I’m sorry to hear this news Ritchie, but on on another I can’t help feel it will be great for you in the long run.

I bet two years time from now you’ll look back on this and wish it had happened sooner.

You’re free!

I don’t know about those Stu, have you got a link?

This is actually good news for you, as, if they are no longer doing bespoke tailoring, you won’t have any issues with restrictive covenants and will be able to continue working with your existing customers.

Don’t think they are available for start ups

And presumably start talking to them.
Do you have any orders they want you to complete or are they cancelling the order book?

Best they cancel the order book and Richie picks it up anew.

Wow, good luck in whatever route you take Ritchie.

You’ve obviously been unhappy for a long time so this is probably a blessing in disguise.

I need a new suit too :+1:

Companies making decisions like this during the current situation really pisses me the fuck off, but I’m sure this will be a good thing for you in the long run and I sincerely hope that it does not cause you additional stress.

Do you pass the Kondo test?

No idea if you would be eligible, but would have thought its worth a try if you are going to go solo

Sorry to hear this Ritchie, but hopefully it’s for the best. Clearly they didn’t appreciate the asset they had, so make sure you take all their clients with you !

Just to keep things ticking over, and so you don’t lose your skillz, could you make a suit for Pete, in his new job as Jim’s chauffeur? ( I know he said the job was near Cambridge, but I think we all know he is now Jim’s bitch ).

Being pushed and always wanting it (as well as having 6 months prep) is as about as it gets for starting on your own. Head up, graft and contact all you know.
Use this time as if it is your last.

Never look back

Ritchie, you are most humble, but it must be said you have a very particular skill set. Not only this but you are known to have this skill set and have worked at the very highest levels. As word drifts into the well collard either I would imagine approaches will be made. Strike a hard bargain, here are some contractual suggestions:

  1. Work from home minimum 75% of the time
  2. Work begins at 10 and finishes at 5
  3. Nap time 2-4
  4. Payment up front
  5. want travel - you pay
  6. Bupa and lots of it
  7. Holidays - long ones - paid
  8. Non dim personal assistant
  9. Glue.
