Lol, reminds me of the minor Twitter spat I got into with some Brexit dickhead the other day who was certain JCB would soon be churning out ventilators.
Clueless twats.

Clueless twats.
It’s mental.
I’m sure places setup for rapid prototyping can help churn out some of the components, but safe medical grade gear isn’t something you can knock up in the shed over the weekend.
Or maybe you can:
“The patient is now pressurised”
When you’re already in a (Brexit) hole, stop digging.
Smacks (in part) of a PR exercise & despite the BBC’s report, the design isn’t Dyson’s either. It was designed from scratch by TTP in S Cambridgeshire. I’m surprised Branson hasn’t stepped in to slap a logo on it somewhere.
Gtech do apparently have a ready & workable design. Being ignored because not overtly pro Brexit/Tory?
With a battery life of 53 seconds ?
If I’m going to be kept alive by a vacuum cleaner manufacturer my choice would be Miele but beggars can’t be choosers.
Sebo.
I have (stupidly) owned Gtech stuff: this news thus strikes terror into my heart…
FWLIW - I worked in Operating Theatres in the early 1980s - we used Manley ventilators - reliable, simple and robust mechanical devices powered by the pressurised gases we were administering. They would be very easy for any light-engineering company like JCB to manufacture, tubing and rubber bellows aside.
is that how you got your victims?
just a reminder that if your fellow self quarantining neighbors are being too loud you might be able to connect to their Bluetooth speaker

What’s wrong with 53 seconds then? It’ll last longer than some of our current Govt.'s policies/promises/facts.
Not sure if this has been posted already, but it’s an excellent summary of the issues we face.
That’s probably the clearest explanation I’ve read of where we are at the moment - cheers Paul
This was posted on FB today:
“ Email sent to Scott Benton local MP this morning.
Unfortunately yesterday my chest worsened, i did the 111 online again and i was told to contact my gp.
I contacted my gp, to be read out a generic reponse by the receptionist telling me that they can no longer communicate with me as i was a suspected case of coronavirus, despite the 111 online telling me to do so. I was told to ring 111 rather than use the online service. I spent the next 2 hours on hold to 111 before the line cut out, again another hour but no response.
I decided to call again out of hours.
In the meantime my mum who is severely immuno compromised has begun to have symptoms. I am worried about her, meanwhile mums from school are messaging me saying they are having symptoms, i cant tell them anything other than we are isolating.
Later in the day, after hours, i did the 111 online again and a doctor called me back. I gave her my symptoms and she told me that as my symptoms had worsened and are not responsive to medication there was a high change i was infected with covid 19 and needed to come in to the hospital for testing and assessment.
I was told to drive upto the car park at urgent care, not to get out of my car and call a number given to me. I was told someone would come in full protective clothing and escort me into a designated area where i would be tested and my condition would be fully assessed.
I felt very reassured by this. Sadly my experience would be far from what i was advised.
When i drove up to the car park and rang the number i was told to, just come in to the main a&e entrance. I was greeted by a receptionist who had ZERO PPE, not even a mask or gloves! She stood 2 feet in front of me,and gave me a mask with her bare hands, asked me to put it on and offered assistance, i declined knowing that i posed a significant risk to her health. Other regular patients were walking around me as they were waiting to be seen, i immediately felt as if i was putting these peoples health at risk.
I was told to walk round to urgent care, at reception i was greeted my 2 members of staff without any PPE, there were regular patients without masks on in the waiting room. Again i felt my presence was putting them at risk. I was asked to wait on a chair in a narrow corridor. This corridor was a thoroughfayre and doctors were continually walking past me, sometimes brushing past me as the corridor was so narrow, the doctors were in usual clothes, not even scrubs and would come and go from urgent care to see patients in the main hospital.
Whilst waiting in the corridor i was privy to conversations held between heathcare staff at the reception desk.
" we are out of handgel"
" these aprons are just for show, they dont even cover our clothes"
“We are running out of everything”
“We have been told we arent allowed to self isolate even if we are high risk or have symptoms”
“We are spreading this around the hospital because we dont have any PPE”
Were just some of the disturbing things i heard comming from staff’s mouths.
After 40 mins of waiting in the corridor and coming into contact with around a dizen people without protection, a masked patient came out of the treatment room and i was ushered in. No clean was done of the room. Staff came in and out of isolation rooms in their usual clothes.
Equiptment was being used between patients without being decontaminated.
After another 10 mins i was seen by a doctor, she assessed my condition and told me that i have extensive lung infection with severe crackles and wheeze across both of my lungs. My oxygen levels were however normal. At this time i had been taking excessive amounts of my salbultamol inhaler in an attempt to breathe and as a result my pulse was over 100.
She told me “I PERSONALLY THINK WE SHOULD BE TESTING YOU RIGHT NOW BUT WE HAVE BEEN TOLD NOT TO TEST ANYONE UNLESS THEY ARE ON A VENTILATOR IN ITU, NOBODY IS HAPPY ABOUT IT BUT THE GOVERNMENT WANT IT TO LOOK LIKE THE NUMBERS ARE A LOT LESS, BUT IN MY OPINION I THINK YOU HAVE CORONAVIRUS”
I obviously was unhappy about this and we chatted about the current situation. She told me she was 16 weeks pregnant, i told her she should be isolating. She told me that the rules did not apply to you if you work for the NHS.
I told her that people around me are falling like flies with chest issues, she said all the government cares about are the official numbers. She said there will be patients dying in the community that arent being reported as coronavirus because they arent being tested, the official death toll is much greater than reported and we are all being lied to.
I told her that as healthcare workers they have the power to stand up against this. THEY ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CAN STAND UP AGAINST THIS AND REFUSE TO WORK IN CONDITIONS WHERE THEY ARE PUTTING THEMSELVES AND PATIENTS AT RISK. - I URGED HER TO RALLY HER COLLEGUES TO STAND UP AGAINST WORKING IN CONDITIONS WITHOUT PROTECTION AND EQUIPMENT.
SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS NOW!
I am emailing this to you, i am also posting this to social media and forwarding this to other media too.
I was a nurse for 20 years so i am well aware of infection control proceedures and this is appauling!
What are you going to do?”
The Penlon equiv is has the same MO also easily manufactured by a light engineering manuf.
Both these designs fall short of the current required spec because of the lack of alarms.
I will be very interested in finding out more about these new ventilators which are presumably battery powered designs.
The only physical change from the one I drafted was the the Penlon diamond logo was larger and included the name of Intermed group on it.
A plastic case instead of a metal one would likely be cheaper and quicker to make a large batch
