Such things spike a bit in winter, but lonely decrepits stroke-out 24/7/365. I’m in no way excusing it, but it is a self-imposed reality that is a tiny bit worse due to COVID.
There’s ~600,000 deaths in the UK annually - and the huge majority are obviously age related. There is a horrifying epidemic of loneliness and isolation among the elderly, resulting from societal change above all else. Inevitably, disturbing numbers die alone and unnoticed.
Obviously society = socialism, so it had to be destroyed. Yay! Political dogma!
A fair few of the people I go to are on their own with nobody checking on them. Family moved away and live around the country.They don’t feed themselves or drink and some don’t even leave the one room. We pick it up when they end up in hospital. Some have had serious malnourishment and/or dehydration, now ask how that happens in the 21st century.
You would be surprised at the amount of people with no immediate family and due to their age get isolated and end up losing what friends they had.
Most will have some level of dementia and will have had it drummed in to them not to accept help from strangers to so many scammers and salesman wanting to rip them off, so many won’t open the door.
People keep going on about care homes but at least they have 24 hour care, think of all the people in their own homes that may only see a carer 3 times a day for about 15 mins a visit.

Grim. Just grim. That right hand tail is very worrying as the rate of decline is tapering off markedly.

The 7-day moving average, including Sunday and yesterday’s very low and to be adjusted figures is at 175. Much better than the 550 - 650 we saw for several days, but still very high.
