Haha

Japanman did wince at this

Would like to see a phase and frequency plot to see if there’s any Synergy in there.
Otherwise it’s a MEH with 7" woofers on the side.

If the crossover point to the woofers is rather high, > 100Hz (as I suspect), they will have lost the 1/4 wavelength distance between drivers, and with that the single point source thing in the lower main music frequency range.

If that’s the case - not so Danley.
That’s why Danley’s SM60F inspired HRE-1 has 2 x 8" LFs and 2 x 15" sub woofers, and is thus rather large.
Hence he won’t sell many.

Done well, for a small room, I’d probably still take them over other multi driver floorstanders though🙂

This weekend I had the opportunity (at the Edinburgh Hi-Fi show) to hear the latest and greatest pair of meridian DSP. The 8000XE

Yes they may be £80,000… but i don’t think ive heard better… ever!

Effortlessly clean, open yet smooth, detailed yet rich, and with an utterly bottomless pit of some of the most textured, nuanced and clean bass ive ever heard.

Though they did feel fit to do a bit of a “show off” by putting on the worst piece of music I’ve ever heard. It did however, have bass so plentiful that it made the fabric on trousers vibrate against my leg! and that was with the bass turned down -9db, because the room was so small.

Utterly staggering.

I’d like to hear the smaller DSP9, which, as far as i can tell only gives up 2hz extension, and 1db of ultimate volume ability for £20,000 less. Given what I’ve seen people spend on separates, you could do a lot worse than spend £60k on a set of DSP’s

I will be doing a lot worse than spending ÂŁ60k on DSPs.

I suspect many people will. For many the hobby is constantly box swapping and wondering what cable to change, what fuse to replace blah blah.

The idea of a finished solution doesn’t really appeal to many, which I get. They’re also not the most attractive thing, imposing yes, striking maybe, but attractive, no!

Not on here it isn’t.

Depends what sort of box swapping you mean.

Not really the whole story though is it? Most Meatmen are 25+ years time-served audiophools who have entered a hopelessly ill-conceived recovery-program called ‘Audio Abattoir’, where you encourage one-another to buy expensive wristwatches, ludicrously expensive horn loudspeakers, cripplingly-overpriced vinyl box sets, faffy and unreliable reel-to-reel sources and unobtainium Japanese phono cartridges…

I’m excluding myself because I’ve unabashedly fallen off the almost-stationary wagon recently…

Maybe not but putting the slowly calming down on the box swapping merry-go-round to one side, the folks on here were never really the cable/ fuse tweaking sorts from what I remember of the Wam (exceptions granted).

Ahem

But f’sure the head-wobblers and foo wonks didn’t make it here. Fink Pish seems to be about the last refuge I’m aware of.

This isn’t Foo! This was the biggest; bestest upgrade ever!

All the veils lifted

So lost in the quality, I can’t even fucking spell!

I seem to remember having to see a few of them off, along with sundry victims of bullying and dotty old fuckers who couldn’t remember their logins for more than five minutes…

And you really have got a fuckin’ nerve to talk about encouraging one and other to buy wristwatches

No foo in my house!

At least it isn’t a pentagram. Summoning the Lord Baphomet and sundry demons must be the ultimate foo upgrade.

Ahem, shiny demon, please.
