I like the red bass bin.
I’ll get my coat…
Arse !
I’d like to hear these top of the line Tocaro 50e, Paul (Loo) mentioned this company to me at Richies bake off.
Power Handling: 100 Watt, 2 Ohm (4 x 8 Ω)
Sensitivity: 103dB Broadband loudspeaker which works filter free, no electrical crossover.
Hmm, I do like the idea of no crossover, but I’m not convinced that such a speaker could be close to neutral
I don’t think they’d be neutral with the natural roll off of the drivers bleeding into each other, the drivers are in-house so that would have been considered to an extent I would have thought.
The baskets of the drivers are made from wood, I don’t know of any other speaker manufacturer to do this, I know some use plastics/polymers.
I’m guessing the non ferrous basket plays a part in how the driver motors operate.
Yeah it’s interesting for sure. Whenever I hear speakers like that I always wonder if it’s the wonderful free, open sound of no crossover, or just the break up modes of the drive units!
Tocaro are wonderful speakers built with obsessive detail. The baskets, feathers and nearly the whole tweeter are made from wood. The membranes are made by hand from cotton and they even make their own adhesives. A vey live sounding speaker so not for everyone.
I’d like a pair but 38,000 euros
All the wood and lossy stuff basically acts as a mechanical crossover though. Is that really better than electronic, or (digital?) active?
Only with the tweeters, all the other drivers are wide band. There is isolation of the drivers inside the cabinets and the front baffle is crucial in the coherence of sound, Ala Rehdeko. This is why all Tocaro or Rehdeko speakers with their little round felt pads removed should be avoided. They also need consideration with regard to amp choice. Whether no crossover is better than the alternatives, I’ve no idea but these speakers are a Labour of love, and wonderful in their own way.
All the effort to great a wonderful looking horn and then hold the damn thing up with some 2 x 4 and cable ties!
Surely, that’s part of the charm.
It was a fun project for a past ETF shoot out and it actually worked quite well as I recall
It has a crossover. A mechanical one.
Why is no crossover desirable?
