Israel, Hamas, the Middle East

True, then again somehow I remember this happening

and this

All I have is opinions mate. The truth is, that’s all anyone has, which is partly why we’re in this appalling fucking mess…

I’m not sure memories of the Holocaust, and the many failures before and after have much to do with Western support. It should, of course, forever stand as a warning to us all - but when its most numerous victims form a state which itself practices forms of genocide and ethnic cleansing, and which turns its former host nation into a giant concentration camp in which it can slaughter whoever it wishes - well… Is it any wonder so many Western cuntries are reverting to right-wing extremism? Once affected-generations are dead and gone (and they mostly are now), hate and intolerance rushes back in…

The West - and UK in particular are a popular whipping-boy in this context, and never-mind that that overlooks the millions who died putting the nazis back in their box, it also ignores the repeated (sometimes questionable) attempts made by different nations to provide Jews with a homeland, (mostly) in less controversial regions than Palestine - and all of which were firmly rebuffed by hard-line Zionists: religious fanatics who would not compromise, and never will…

There was even postwar discussion (and nothing more), of establishing Zion in a remote US state (IIRC Arizona or New Mexico) - the US had the space, and unlike us, the resources (we were buried repaying the US war debts - not cleared until 2006), but it was universally vetoed, don’t think it got beyond informal discussion level. Annoyingly I can’t find the source because googling “Israel / Zion in USA” naturally leads to hundreds of conspiracy and right-wing sites…

'sake…

…And still no peace.

I suspect most of the rest of us (and yes, I know from previous posts on here that it won’t be universal) won’t really deeply get the full context of this.
L'Shana Haba'ah - Wikipedia.

Nutter 'Muricans have sort of constructed their own equivalent version of a holy homeland which may be why the God channel on TV and others like it have so much focussed on Israel.

Worth noting in the context of where we are now, what the terms that Arafat refused were when those pictures were taken;

Given that the Hamas explicitly states Israel has no right to exist, I’m not sure where you’d even start attempting to return to that point via negotiation.

Pretty sure you can’t graft a new idea on this kind of closed mind. Fundamentalism in whatever shape it takes is quite unhinged. The idea that women & Kids should suffer due to “The principal of the thing” is utterly bat shit.

Culture, religion and territorial differences = no peace in our time, or probably the next two thousand years.

I’ve a few thoughts - I wouldn’t put them any more strongly than idle musings at this stage.

Firstly, a lack of support on my part at least for other oppressed groups is by and large one of ignorance, not a particular preference for the Palestinians of Gaza.

I also cannot think of equivalents scenarios where our own government so strongly takes the side of an oppressor - I suspect perhaps that some of the impetus to protest is because the entire government narrative is so one sided.

Quite, politicians are one thing ‘the people’ or a faction of them are quite another.

Or possibly more pertinently, Saudi-its own people.

USA and anywhere it feels it commercially-expedient to invade?

Oldie but goody

Saw this banner on Laura Kuenssberg this morning.

So worse than Hitler’s Germany and Stalin’s Russia. Worse than Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge. Worse than Rwanda. Worse than the USA dropping atomic bombs on Japan. Worse than the Allies flattening Dresden and other German cities. Worse than the extermination of 500,000 Syrians by Assad and his allies. Okay dokey.

No not yet, but they’re trying fucking hard to be the worst.

500,000 dead Syrians. 3 million dead Cambodians. 800,000 dead Rwandans. 17 million victims of the Nazi regime. Stalin responsible for 6 million. But no, you’re right Chris. It’s all about Israel.

I’ve deleted my response, really can’t be arsed arguing about Israel (or the phrasing of a placard)
