Israel, Hamas, the Middle East

While Biden expresses some disquiet about this latest atrocity, the US considers whether to send a further $18Bn worth of F15 fighters (50) 1800 x 2000lb bombs and 500 x 500lb bombs. This is in addition to the $14Bn in ‘aid’ Biden has already asked Congress to commit to.

Presumably they’re thinking the hole in the ground isn’t deep enough yet.

At least when aid workers & children are blown up it’ll be by state of the art munitions providing many much needed jobs back in the US.

Well what a surprise. The drone that killed the 7 aid workers was powered by British made engines. Makes your heart swell with pride.

“The Israeli army systematically attacked the targeted individuals while they were in their homes — usually at night while their whole families were present — rather than during the course of military activity […] because it was easier to locate the individuals in their private houses. Additional automated systems, including one called “Where’s Daddy?” […] were used specifically to track the targeted individuals and carry out bombings when they had entered their family’s residences.”

Where’s Daddy?

I just don’t know where to begin

How easy it is to dehumanise people to such an extent that military personnel follow orders without question, accepting that all targets and consequential collateral deaths have been cleared by those in charge and do not question it.

Milgram in action at a State level, its not new but it remains shocking in its use.

But hey! At least this is definitely not genocide.

Right?

Of course, I think there have only been 3 official genocides: Cambodia, Nazi WW2, Rwanda. None of the others count (officially); Balkans, Burma, China (several in 20thC), various First Peoples (USA, Australia, Brazil etc), N Iraq, Sudan…the list goes on and on. Over 40 in the last 60 years.

But hey, we all believe the Politicians when they puke up the words, “Never again”.

Iran retaliates…

It’ll blow over :grimacing:

I suppose it depends on how many drones get through Israel’s air defenses and what damage they do.

Interesting, it sounds as though GPS is being jammed across most of the Middle East.

Also I don’t think the drones will do much, it’s if Iran are going to follow up with cruise/ballistic missiles to coincide with drone ETA (using the drones as a distraction or to overwhelm air defenses), as some are saying they might.

This is the only way Drones would make sense, unfortunately.

Update: cruise missiles now launched apparently.

Also US and British aircraft are over Syria and Jordan intercepting drones.

Update 2: could be over now (although nothing has yet hit):

Anyone else struggling to see what Iran actually got out of lobbing a few party poppers at Israel (other than making them spend a few units of currency on defensive arms)? From what I can see essentially nothing had any impact.

Me

Being able to face their public and say “Look, we did something” about the attack in Syria.

I reckon the Iranians basically told the US and Israel they were going to do it.
