The forum have done that pretty well so far
Nice looking things…
I already have something strangely similar - a very old class d amp which I bought about 25 years ago, still works fine tho.
It’s a 180wpc ES Labs stereo amp with the (original, I think ) Tripath chip.
I think it’s a 2nd generation chip, FWIW, good for 500WPC depending how it’s implemented. They’d got past early issues with excess RFI and suchlike - indeed looks like they’ve taken a lot of care in that area. Looks nicely built and well-specced.
Seems like yesterday that ‘Class-T’ was all the rage - I bought a pair of monos from a startup which sounded nice but were nicked by someone I foolishly loaned them to.
IIRC it was bad Chinese clones of these chips that killed Tripath’s business: nasty-ass £9-on-ebay plastic copies started catching fire or frying speakers, and Tripath went under.
Have you tried it on the Gotos?
I remember that amp. Needed the contacts cleaning on the Tripath module back in 2013. Sounded rather good iirc.
No, I loaned it to a mate a while back when he was ampless. He’s recently bought one so the ES Labs will be returned soon. It is a lovely sounding thing so will be interesting to try it with the horns.
Last few days, been doing some further experimentation with the M7.
I’ve been a bit hesitant to try it again after the noise/gain issues with the Dave’s SITs, and also the sub not working properly with it. It just seemed totally incompatible.
Decided I may as well try it with the little Aiyima.
Didn’t have high expectations, but I couldn’t have been more rong! Initially it wasn’t too good - the same as last time with too much gain. Then tried turning the volume control right down on the T-amp and bingo - with the Aiyima on low and the M7 volume control at about 12 o’clock, it sounds superb. The second outputs on the M7 are also now driving the sub properly. Very impressed.
Next stage is to try using two amps with the Aiyima driving the bass cabs and the horns being driven by a flea-power 6B4G amp (created by @murrayjohnson ) which Adam is kindly letting me audition.
Forgot to mention - the M7 Aiyima combo is quiet as a church mouse, no hum/noise whatsoever. All win
Bung a Zobel network on one of the M7’s outputs and use it on its own!
Or - Tron Convergence Monoblock Amplifiers | pink fish media
Switchable sensitivity, Tron stuff sounds good, and will be quiet as.
Buy this, even after VAT and getting the diodes sorted you’d still have change from the pretty looking tron boxes price.
Always fancied one of those
As usual, dear boy, you have completely missed the point: the Tron/s are a) switchable for sensitivity so as to better suit sensitive speakers, b) serviceable if the output devices die, and c) Jim can get a home demo so he doesn’t buy any more far-eastern firestarters.
Love the job you were doing on PFM deflating the more pompous of the members there today.
Tron is overpriced glitzy and mediocre crap.
Not as good as the job I was doing by not being on pfm in the first place
As per Mark’s comment, the best thing I could do is stay the fuck away, or at least stay STFU - but that smug, self-satisfied cunt and I have a loooong history, and I just can’t help myself occasionally. Same with Jez Clueless. Stoopid, cos I always feel cuntaminated afterwards…
Have a Decware Zen going spare if you want a play, just sat here gathering dust. until I can sort a 2nd system.
Just had a look and what the fuck has happened to that forum, it looks messy and awful now with shitty fonts and graphics.
Tuga is a bellend, when I was on pfm and used to argue with him over technical stuff I put his replies into google and often they would go back to other forums from different posters or was lifted from sites explaining stuff.
Basically the twat just used to lift stuff from google without having a clue what he was talking about.
After a few times of posting links back to the source he did the usual pfm ad-hom complaint and my posts got deleted
