John Coltrane LPs - tell me things

AA Jazzers assemble!

Weirdly, there’s a JC vacuum in my collection, save for Coltrane (1957) and Blue Train (1958).

Been looking at the following:

Giant Steps (1960)
Coltrane Jazz (1961)
Lush Life (1961)
Settin’ The Pace (1961)
My Favourite Things (1961)
Coltrane Plays The Blues (1962)

Do you have any of these LPs? Which pressing? Good pressing or not so?

Edit: I am not looking to acquire early pressings. I more want to appreciate what is decent from more recent pressings.

Giant Steps (1960) UK London and Anal Prod 45rpm Both are strong
Coltrane Jazz (1961) OK LP have UK London
Lush Life (1961) UK Esquire (Decca Pressing excellent sound) and Anal Prod 45
My Favourite Things (1961) UK Plum Atlantic (Decca Pressing excellent sound)
Coltrane Plays The Blues (1962) UK Plum Atlantic (Decca Pressing excellent sound)

If I had to have one giant Steps would be the keeper but Lush Life and Favorite things wouldn’t be far behind.

Good job it’s not expensive.

The My Favourite things Rhino Mono and Stereo pressing is very good, AAA and well priced. My Favorite Things (2022 Remaster) [VINYL]: Amazon.co.uk: CDs & Vinyl.

Although like the also excellent 45rpm Giant Steps, don’t have an alternative to compare to.

Like many I would prefer 1960 pressings, but wallet doesn’t allow.

It is pricey but in perspective

The ERC re-issue - (doesn’t sound particularly better)

Original UK London (Pressed at Decca)

US mono 1st

I see what you are saying. Expensive hobby.

The Atlantic Years in Mono box set sounds decent and this particular UK example is keenly priced. Great VFM:

Obsession is no wallets friend.

Good deal for someone, stepped away for now though.

Pressed at Optimal (Mostly good) mastered at Air. Funny thing about ERC with their limited run all analogue Ex Decca engineer full kit vintage mastering is, until recently also pressed at optimal.

what… no “a love supreme”, “ballads” or “africa / brass”.

I’d have those before most things in the list above

Because this

yes, and i’m suggesting this list is incomplete.

Yep. However he was requesting insight on the quality (Pressings) of the titles noted. Personally I’d say: ‘See his wife’.

Love Supreme would only ever be on one special list for me.
The list of stuff I have given away and will never play again.
It isn’t a very long list but that is on it

Harsh!
