Good luck getting them on your flight home!

That’s my knife pusher :+1:

Aaargh!

My own stupid fault though. Had to resort to the Japanese water stones

All better now

Impressive!

What happened?

Mine chipped when I tried to hone it once when it was something mad like 5c in the kitchen, which is too cold really for the knife

^^^ Exactly this

It wasn’t too cold, just me being a clumsy fuck.

Really helpful and plenty of choice

The wife bought me this set

And includes an additional sharpen when needed

Grateful for a recommendation of a faff-free sharpener for my cheap (Procook Nihon) knives. I bought them on special offer (about £10 each), so no cosseting required.
Just a simple pull through sharpener will do(?), though perhaps one a little less shitty than the one I have (A Lidl 3 slot type, which is worn to hell. It seemed to do a fair job when it was less worn than it is now).

Cheers

I’ve got one of these:

Not as good as my wet stones, but cheaper, quicker and good enough.

This has been pretty good.

Thanks both.

I happened across a Minosharp (the original version) unused in its box. It was cheap enough to be worth a punt, so I bought it. If it sharpens my Nakiri knife well, I’ll be happy enough (I use that knife for pretty much everything - it just feels right).

Of course, I am now wondering if a better Nakiri knife might be a worthwhile investment. Maybe…

Maybe I’d be better off with a santoku.

Global do one for about £70, which isn’t all that expensive, though that’s probably more than I’ve spent on knives in my whole life.

OK then, would anyone care to recommend a decent, but inexpensive Santoku knife? this thread mentions the Victorinox plastic handled type at about £30-£40, which looks like the no fuss and no nonsense type I am drawn to. I just want to slice things with it and don’t care much beyond that. It doesn’t have to look fancy.

Is there anything better at the sub-£50 price point?

Cheers

It’s pretty much the best I have used for that kind of money.
