Lawnmower action, Middle age; don't fight it, feel it

I get a notification when someone edits my thread titles

Wasn’t me (I thought only the thread starter or a mod could edit a title?)
BUT

My ‘tag’ on another forum is a line from a Joni song

“Oh there must be more to living
Than a mortgage and a lawn to mow”

:grinning:

Hair Boobs - who knew?!

Don’t mulch. Get a good roller based mower either battery or petrol.

Buy a verticutter and use every 4 to 6 weeks inbetween mowing.

Religiously.

WTF is a verticutter? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: (Do I need one?)

He has been talking to greenkeepers at his golf club again :grinning:

ÂŁ150 from Amazon.

Why are all verticutters / scarifiers so narrow?
Even a ‘big’ Toro over is only 40cm!

Would need something much bigger or be walking for hours.

I have a John Deere tined rake that attaches to the front and does some good. Still not quite full width though.

I bought a £100 small petrol Izzy from a guy who had owned it for 8 years, I swear there were tears as he helped me load it into the boot of my car, he cleaned it after every cut and it’s was (sadly I didn’t keep up the regimen) like new.

Starts on its own almost so totally perfect buy for my small lawns for no money - very happy

+1 for the Izy
Had ours for 8 or 9 years now. Starts every time

We have the best lawnmower - his name is Mateo and he lives a couple of doors further down our road. He’s a lovely kid, maybe 12 or 13, very well mannered, brings his own lawnmower and bags up the cuttings. He’s been really reliable this summer - he texts Ann every couple of weeks to ask if it’s ok to come mow the lawn and charges ten quid a pop. Perfect :ok_hand:

I did that 30yrs ago as a young teenager, I charged ÂŁ5, but didnt provide the mower.
The BoE inflation calculator shows that ÂŁ5 back in '93 = ÂŁ10.03 in August '23.
I reckon you’re getting a good deal as no hardware to maintain.

We bought petrol mower from Aldi 6 years ago ÂŁ155 and still going strong. Starts first time every time. sharpened blade twice. Great mower for not a lot of money.

I was given a basic, push yourself Homebase Qualcast mower with a 125 B&S engine a house warming present 8 yrs ago, I was quietly sceptical.
I changed the oil and airfilter for the first time 2 yrs ago, still starts on the first pull.
As well as our own lawns I cut the elderly neighbours too, its very well used.

You didn’t factor ‘Norfolk’ into the equation

(Still a good deal though)

Well finally got round to it, bought the honda as it was taking 4x batteries to just do the back garden if we’re away for a week and missed cutting due to weather.
Hopefully dry at the weekend for a first cut!
51cm Vs 43cm cutting width should help too!
