Valid points no doubt, until people see more similarities than differences, division will prevail. Sociologically the rise of Hooliganism was traced to the rise of women’s rights, the pill and more open homosexuality in the 70’s.
The hypothesis here was how can testosterone fueled ‘lads’ feel like and be respected as a man? They are not ‘needed’ by women, their role in society was shifting (Thousands of years of patriarchal role modeling leaves a gap). No longer were they ‘the bread winner,’ the great provider / controller - They could be replaced by a vibrator - in short emasculation - The answer was fighting and tribalism, here a man proves he is a ‘man’… Curious train of thought I grant you. But add a few generations into this and role models / beliefs / fears etc are entrenched a long way off beam.
Today the ‘culture’ of hooliganism is alive and well, an outlet, a place where some feel validated , powerful and respected by their peers / tribe. Their sense of identity is bound to this. Toxic masculinity paired with fear / powerlessness and misguided racism is a tangled mess when you dig down into it. They are also very easily manipulated if you understand which buttons to push Insecurity & Blame are like that, something Farage and Murdock know only too well.

I don’t think it is Alpha males. After all the alphas we might expect to be quite content with their position in the pecking order etc and won’t be feeling the frustration of those who either wish they were alphas (there are lots of these poor fuckers), or just feel disempowered and use violence and civil disobedience as an outlet.

Yup, personal accountability.
A lot of these silly fuckers are gonna get hauled up in front of the judge and quickly realise that ‘but everyone else was doing it’ isn’t going to cut much ice, and that the people amping them up are no where to be seen…
I’d like to see how far a defence of ‘but we voted in the Tories didn’t we so its everyone’s fault’ gets them

Yep, 3 years for one of the Liverpool ones.
When I was about 19 as part of my training, I spent 6 months ‘site experience’ on a major construction site in London.
One break time in the site hut someone was ranting about their fate and perceived injustices, when an old boy in the corner, who probably had seen service in WW2, said “Son, stop moaning, you have already won the lottery of life. You were born white, male and in a rich country”
I never forgot those words.
