After reading ‘Britain is showing its true colours’ I thought that was pretty clear and objectionable - because no, Britain is not showing it’s true colours - a tiny minority of thugs, morons and those easily lead are the ones doing that.
Precisely what are people supposed to think this means?
Sadly though these thugs are the result of poor education, lack of community support, poor funding by the government, and years of conservatism being seen as acceptable.
Sadly that is a state of play caused by the behaviour and voting intentions of more than half of the country. So to some extent, this is the fault of the masses.
The UK needs to support better education, better housing, community engagement, and a more neutral media. Until that happens, thuggery like this will continue.
So, we are all to blame for the state of our own island!
I’m disgusted by this behaviour, it makes me so angry, our children can’t believe what they are seeing.

I too am delighted that there has been no trouble in Scotland. Yet! Scottish nationalism is inclusive and abhors racism unlike its English equivalent.
That said, we really can’t take the moral high ground due to the fact that the Scottish establishment (and people) continue to tolerate outrageous levels of anti irish racism.
Descendants of Irish catholics in England don’t have to endure the levels of bigotry routinely encountered in Scotland.

We have a very different definition of more than half the country for a start. Eligible voter turnout at GEs is what, about 70-80%? And the Tories didn’t achieve a majority of that 70-80% turnout at any point in the last 14 years (36%, 37%, 42%, 44%).
So no, this isn’t in basic numerical terms -
This is a tiny minority who speak and act for themselves without any mandate or justification except disruption, violence and destruction. Those in this country with far right leanings still represent a tiny fraction of society, despite the antic and rhetoric of previous Tory dog ministers and populist rabble-racists like Farage.
It is completely flawed to say that somehow this is backed by a mandate from the masses or that we are all to blame.

Well worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.
You can spin numbers all you like to show that a tiny percent voted the way they did, but that just demonstrates the apathy and disengagement of the other 30-40% of voters that couldn’t be arsed to turn up.
Governments don’t happen by accident. They’re the result of the attitudes and behaviours of their country. If 30% of the voters didn’t show up, they too are then responsible for the outcome as much as those that did show up.
These issues are a direct result of educational funding, poor community support and regional attitudes which no one is doing anything to fix.
You can’t only blame these people, they are the product of their environments, people aren’t born racist.

The point I’m making is that I do not believe that the tiny numbers of people active in rioting and protest have any mandate from the voting patterns as you are suggesting.
I notice you’re avoiding clarifying what you meant by your ‘England is doing itself proud’ comment, that’s fine, everyone can make their own mind up.
I think while overly general, “England” as a personality has history with hooliganism, conservative attitudes, racism and thuggery.
Yes, it’s a tiny tiny minority of people, but they’re making so much noise, they taint the entire nation. Like every time the football fans go abroad, it’s pathetic, and it shows national attitudes in a bad light.
Of course we all know that most of the country don’t think that way, but there’s not enough noise in the opposite direction being made. Where are the anti facism riots? Where are the protests for immigrant rights and equality.
Everyone has become too lazy and complacent. So sadly, this loud minority now make the most noise and define the state of the country.
Want to change attitudes? Go on a march, support local communities to change attitudes, be politically involved to change how the country is run.
Voting apathy and inaction are not valid excuses for the state of things. Do better!
Yes these people are thugs, but they are that way because society let them, and their families down. People are not born inherently evil or racist, something has to make them this way, and the UK should be better than this. If they are like this, it shows massive failings in the system.
Let’s keep it in our pants, please.
