Let's loot the vape shop

Looters from the 2011 riots received prison time.

There should be a new charge for the neanderthals , wilfully assaulting the police officers boots and batons with various parts of their body.

This! Yes it’s easy to blame individuals, but we need to look wider for the causes

I had a look at the stats for London riots in 2011 earlier. The courts will throw the book at them. Roughly 45% of people convicted were jailed. Considering around 30% of those found guilty were juveniles that equates to around 65% of the adults receiving custodial sentences. Also the sentences themselves were extremely harsh.

"A year on from the unrest, Ministry of Justice figures show that a total of 1,292 offenders have been jailed for their part in the trouble.

The average custodial sentence was 16.8 months - more than four times the average term handed down by magistrates’ courts for similar offences."

I feel bad for the young people who are most likely from extremely deprived backgrounds, haven’t had a chance in life and got caught up in something the shouldn’t have. Stole a couple of pairs or trainers and a sausage roll, end up doing time and the rest of their life is fcked because they have a conviction. Horrible spiral.
To the bastards who instigated this mess, attacked the police, tried to burn people out of hotels etc. Give them 10yrs minimum.

In law it is not possible for the accused to be found culpable when they have an IQ below 35.

I thought that the maximum custodial sentence that a Magistrates Court could hand down was 6 months?
If the crime/charge has a higher tariff than that it is heard in the Crown Court

It would be nice if they could find a reason, incitement perhaps, to lock up Tommy Two Names when he relinquishes his sun lounger in Ayia Napa and returns to Britain.

6 months for one offence,12 months if it’s two charges

That was a quote from bbc, maybe it should have said crown court. I checked elsewhere though and the numbers look to be accurate (even my arithmetic).

“Around two-thirds of defendants appearing before the courts for riot-related offences received an immediate custodial sentence with an average length of 17.1 months, compared to just 3.7 months for similar cases in 2010.”

There is always an element of political will and direction to judges over sentencing.
Politicians want votes
Voters generally want long sentences and don’t want to pay for building prisons, providing probation and rehabilitation services etc.
But when crime is all over TV and social media sentencing will will also be in high profile

All true, but she spoke more sense on this than anyone else I heard tonight.

The Guy in the England shirt , looting.
Which town was that ?

Hull?

Same town where they nearly got hold of the occupants of a car, the passenger had to leg it being chased by a guy with a metal bar. All saved by some police who showed up. Both main protaginists arrested, long spell in jail awaits then and both are well known to police. The video is shocking, like something out of early 30s Germany. On bbc webby.

…Reassuring more anti fascists turned up for the Plymouth protest than racists. They did set off the odd fire work (The locals love fire works) and biffed a Police van - after a while it started to rain and everyone went home because regardless of atrocity or racist bile no one fancied getting soggy.

Riots always seem to be a summer thing. Bit of iffy weather and it’s all off
