LG OLED Fault

I bought a 65" LG OLED from Richer sounds in November 2020 with the 6 year guarantee.
It has developed a fault where it will not switch on out of standby.

Googling it seems to be a fairly common fault and is fixed by unplugging the TV and pressing the hidden on switch for 30 secs (presumably to discharge capacitors in the power supply).
But I have to do this every time.
Rang Richer Sounds today and customer service chap was excellent.
I was a bit concerned as 6 year warranty is almost up but there was no issue at all.
Emails exchanged, pics sent, waiting for a response and a repair man appointment.

I must admit the process was very easy and has validated buying from Richer in the first place.
However, the proof is in the pudding!

Will see what happens next.

If the TV engineer decides it’s not repairable, they won’t offer you a new set (as it’s near the end of the warranty) They will offer you an amount towards a replacement. Don’t be surprised if it’s quite a bit less than you might expect - they take depreciation and wear n tear into account.

Whatever you do, don’t let the guy take the set away for repair as that will severely limit your options, both time and money wise :+1:

Thanks Jim.
From online reading it seems it is a common power supply fault and they fit a new board (as long as the part is available).
They are not taking it anywhere as it still works fine apart from the switching on faff.

Well there were a few emails exchanged and the power supply was diagnosed as the problem and the parts were orderd.
Repair man came today and fitted a new board in situ.
All up and working perfectly now.
I mentioned that it was almost out of warranty and the chap said that an out of warranty repair (new board and fitting) would be £500.

Big up to Richers 6 year warranty and the fact that in the 6th year it was honoured and the repairs done. The proof of the pudding for any insurance policy is what happens when you claim and they made the whole process very easy.

The pictures are nice, but modern TVs really are fucking shit.

I think I am just happy that it was repaired rather than be told parts were not available, it was obsolete and I needed to buy another one.
