Lp stuck

Hi

Any chance of a fix for one of my fav records that has developed a sticking on one track

Tried wet clean and can’t see anything physical stopping it from moving on it just plays one rotation for ever

Is it buggered?

If not fixable anyone got a mint aerial boundaries by Michael hedges they could live without, pref the original but if the rerelease is ok that would do me

I have duplicates of all his other lps but just cd of this one (annoying I should have bought one when they were cheap)

Cheers
Darren

Have you tried a different cartridge, or perhaps nudging up the tracking force by .1gm or so. Might worth checking tracking force anyway.

Just take a needle and run it along the groove in the area. That should straighten the groove out and stop it skipping.

Wood glue? Then hope you get all the crud out?

Have you fed it through an ultrasonic cleaner?

Yep velvet vortex didn’t sort it (although thinking about it I could increase the strength of my mix and switch the rotation off to give it a proper blast

Looks clean

Never liked the wood glue

Perhaps I need a cheap microscope to have a look at what is happening (useful regardless)

Mild panic at running a needle over my favourite lp but as a last resort I don’t see why not

Thanks
Darren

If the groove is compromised there’s no way to fix it without some deterioration of sound. If you have an old cartridge in a drawer mount it and add a 7-10grams of weight either via the counterweight or stacking coins on the headshell. Cue the track precisely on the section that sticks, with the turntable off manually move the record with your hand (think scratch DJ) 5-6 times - This may relieve the stick replacing it with a momentary woosh.

Don’t do this. I was joking.

I was going to ask if it should be a Sharp, Between, or perhaps an Embridery Crewel. And which size!

The sewing needles probably do less harm :grinning:

Try putting it in Vortex without it turning around just still with the affected area in the fluid and give it a good half an hour. Then try again. This technique has worked well with some stubborn materials on records in the grooves. Its worth a try. It might be damage and then you probably are left looking for another copy.

This fixes the problem by making you never want to listen to vinyl ever again :+1:
