Very much agree with you. And in places like Plymouth there just aren’t the transport links. I quite often start work at 7am and I’m lucky that I only live 3 miles from where I work but if I lived on the other side of the city you’d literally have to get up at 4am to try and get a couple of buses out to us.
I drive a 12 year old Peugeot 3008 that I’ve no inclination to change any time soon. It’s reliable , frugal and comfy but I do wonder when I do have to change it what will be available. I couldn’t get an electric as I don’t have a drive and I’m lucky if I can park outside my house.
In related news, the garage that led the charge (and won) against the CPZ and LTN here, as referenced by @MonitorGold10 upthread, put its own premises up for sale (business unaffected) a couple of days ago.
One assumes that the CPZ would have either made a massive difference to the asking price or made it unsellable.
These vids are great for stirring up the ‘Nostalgia IS a strategy’ brigade.
It’s no easy win win though.
His alternative is to perpetuate local area’s high levels of pollution these older cars and vans put out.
How big is the health problem due to cars/vans petrol and deceasal? Cost to NHS etc.
We need cleaner cities and local roads, quicker than his dream.
He’s all about wanting his old toys untouched - I do get that to a certain extent.
I agree 100% about the right to repair, and making electric vehicles last as long as possible so they could filter down, but that comes with all the range and charging problems they entail.
Our local provincial version seems to be going ahead as well.
Note for reader: as much as the Parade is in effect the high street, our High Street is actually completely different as we didn’t bother to change the names when we decided to be a tourist destination and we definitely won’t change it now we have managed to not be a tourist destination.
