Over the years a few lines in favourite songs really resonate so thought it might be fun to hear others have similar favourites. to make it interesting I haven’t included artist or song, but Google should sort if you don’t know the tune. .Starter for ten for me would be:
Judge, judge, I got Debts no honest man can pay
And
There’s a Hole in daddy’s arm where all the money goes
Well the highway is alive tonight
But nobody’s kidding nobody about where it goes
I’m sitting down here in the campfire light
With the ghost of old Tom Joad
Hey little leaf, lying on the ground.
Now you’re turning slightly brown.
Why don’t you get up on the tree.
Turn the color green the way you ought to be
A childlike metaphor for the human condition. The way it was sung always stuck with me (Karen Dalton)
And if you must go to work tomorrow
Well, if I were you I wouldn’t bother
For there are brighter sides to life
And I should know because I’ve seen them
But not very often
Soon I discovered that this rock thing was true
Jerry Lee Lewis was the devil
Jesus was an architect previous to his career as a prophet
All of a sudden, I found myself in love with the world
So there was only one thing that I could do
Was ding a ding dang my dang a long ling long
I can’t explain
I got a feeling that I just
I can’t erase
Just a feeling that I won’t
Won’t leave behind
Because it’s something that is on
It’s on my mind
I guess it goes like na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
Elvis was a hero to most but he never meant shit to me
This always stuck out to me as a great way to fuck off a large majority of Murcans. It also made me look at Elvis’s racism which I guess was informative. (Public enemy)
Well I’m feeling nervous
Now I find myself alone
The simple life’s no longer there
Once I was so sure
Now the doubt inside my mind
Comes and goes but leads nowhere
Blue chicago moon swings like a blade above the midwest’s heart
Swings like a blade (x2)
Swing that blade above us(x2)
Show us how close it can get
Show us how close you can get
Show us how fast we can lose it how bad we’re out numbered
We can do what you want to do
Even if it means nothing at all
I just want to spend the day with you
Let’s take advantage of this little bit of rainfall
You say you never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He’s not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And say “Do you want to make a deal?”
