tldr: fuck
Iâm so glad that Iâm approaching the end of my working life, canât imagine having to deal with this shit.
I can absolutely identify at least 2 job roles I had in the Civil Service that could be done by AI very easily indeed, that would replace literally hundreds of jobs in one fell swoop.
Was my exact thoughts while reading it.
Yep.
But that will free us all up to have much more leisure time and quality of life.
I am sure I read that somewhere!
But then I also read Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut published in 1952
So it goes.
Also this - a dystopian hellscape is being born.
Whatâs clear from AIâs incredibly rapid progress is that no job of any kind is safe. Be as idealistic as you like, human nature will overcome it. Thus, itâs the most creative jobs, the ones we all would have intuited would be least affected, that have been first to suffer because most people donât actually really value them at-all, they just pay lip-service to cultural idealsâŚ
This should be making us re-consider wealth distribution, especially at the wealth-hoarder end of the scale. No individual needs $ÂŁbillions, let alone $ÂŁtrillions - itâs effectively impossible to meaningfully spend such sums in one human lifetime. If there are no jobs then we must confront what we do with all that unwanted humanityâŚ
Of course Goldman Sachs had to be involved. I am just waiting for the first AI programmes they use to develop a massive charlie habit and burn out within 3 years.
Shit, I hope AI doesnât take over retirement ![]()

Link doesnât work for me for some reason - get an error message - is there a different URL to access it by?
This is the source article
Thanks.
Loganâs Run
Its the future
Even starting to appear at my work. We have the issue that data canât leave our own servers so most AI is a no go. But they are trialing some new software around redacting case files which if it works will probably see 30+ people without a job.
I very much hope my son goes into a hands on trade - At some point AI may figure out how to hang wallpaper, do plumbing, wire a house, landscape a garden ⌠then again perhaps the economy will tank to such a degree no one will be concerned with such fripperies
Given the intolerance that seems now to be a feature in almost every aspect of life, itâs not difficult to envisage a world where those under 35 start to say âFuck these old cunts who already had it all. Why should I pay to support them?â
I was going to suggest âdeliver a babyâ or âwrite a novelâ or even âhold a politician to accountâ.
You and Guy both talk, more or less directly, about the economy and the business of paying for things. Do we think the small matter of the out-of-work generally being drains on the economy rather than contributors to it might have crossed anyoneâs mind ? The disappearance of income tax revenue will make the need to tax EVâs, which they just seem to have woken up to, look like pretty small beer.
Surely they just tax the tech multi nationals?
Oh hold on,
Iâd love every governments tax office to write to each and every tech bro and oligarch and give them the bill for the impact that they will cause whilst taking enormous personal benefit.
