I guess that means ‘put everything into the e-mail body’ because they’ve chosen tech which is blind to the subject line. We’ve spent 40 years developing e-mail and yet some folks still haven’t made it all the way across square one

the tech is more than capable and can be used that way, it handles support/service desk tickets where the ticket number in the subject line is used to associate it with an incident in the ticketing system.
The problem is customers not understanding their requirements and blindly insisting a system is implemented their way.
Tech tends to be good but customers are fuckwits.

Since the widespread use of Co-pilot and now Claude my main clients have switched from people who hate thinking for themselves to now being people who hate thinking for themselves and ask Claude to do it for them.
Consequently I spend about 3 days per week just unravelling some half assed cack that Claude has provided them, that they haven’t reviewed beyond ‘sounds good’ and certainly not given it any critical evaluation or reality check. Basically I’m busier right now than I have been for the last 6 or 7 years.
They’re also obsessed with digital marketing and you can see that the senior Global VPs are wetting themselves at the increasingly near prospect of fucking off all their field commercial and medical teams and replacing them with AI agents.
Well all this is starting to land for real in national territory re-organisations and half of the UK workforce being put at risk in two of my biggest and long standing clients.
I’ve been doing some pension/ retirement planning recently and my initial base assumption was that business revenues would broadly continue at present rates for cautiously another two-three years before tailing off, largely due to pipeline of drug launches which attract budgets etc. So I might have 3-5 years left if I wanted, maybe longer.
I spent most of yesterday doing more severe cliff edge what ifs to basically disaster plan for worse case, zero revenue in 12 months time. I’m sure it won’t come to that, for a start I think that companies like my clients will try to go too early, and implement it so horrifically badly that they’ll need to slow down or reverse for a bit, but the writing is almost certainly on the wall.
It’s not just your clients. My GP practice allows repeat 'scrips to be requested online using a tool called Patient Access. When I tried to use it last week it fell over at an advanced stage of the process (it had successfully logged me in including 2FA’ing, presented me with my regular repeat meds, allowed me to generate a list of the ones I wanted and then asked me to Confirm that list, but when I tried to confirm it fell on its face with the error “Something went wrong. Please try again”.). I submitted a request for help to Support describing the failure precisely. It took me 48 words.
After a couple of days (!) they sent me a thousand word reply (yes, really, I ran a word count) which started with
We would very much appreciate it if you could check below to see if your query has been answered already.
Some of the thousand words were actually links to other documents which, presumably, it also wanted me to read. Fuck off.
It couldn’t have been more obviously AI-generated if it tried. Not only was it was completely unhelpful but it was blindingly obviously so. Anyone who’d read my 48 words would have known that.

Until a couple of years ago, I was using Patient Access to order repeat prescriptions.
It was clunky to register and to use, but I cannot think of a use case where AI would improve it…
I use the NHS app now. Much better.

My GP’s surgery also offers that. I was on the verge of ditching Patient Access and downloading the alternative and then today, when I needed to order an item missed off my emergency 'scrip ordered at the surgery counter, I found Patient Access was working again. Maybe its days are numbered though.
This is starting to boil up down here. The scale of the proposed buildings & development are startling.
If they have to happen (do they?) surely derelict brownfield sites, unwanted by housing developers, are available.
The people of Torrington need have no fear. They share our superb champion of justice & MP Sir Geoffrey Cox who’s been conspicuously quiet on this so far.
Not that I’d want it there but there’d be more of a case for putting it in Radon central & replacing the uninhabitable jail at Princetown with it. But, National Park so unlikely.

About 344 hectares (850 acres) of countryside have been secured for the huge campus, with five vast buildings ranging in height from 50 to 130 feet. Listed buildings on the site, Xlinks says, will be relocated and transformed into a visitor centre.

Sadly UNESCO status of any kind seems to carry less weight than people think. We’re in a World Heritage Site owing to the copper & tin mining history of the South West but it doesn’t appear to prevent untrammelled housing developments even in the AONB area.
Yup. Say where a 2GW power station used to be. We have just the thing, complete with a really heavy duty grid connection and, assuming you don’t actually want to boil the Thames, a legacy cooling system too.
Plan A was, of course, for a squillion more houses (what we’re known for) but after the cowboy demolition company carelessly dropped the boiler house on four men, killing them, suddenly the chances of selling houses built on a death site were judged to have lessened. We have room for lots more 1’s and 0’s.
