Man bags

I’m sick and tired of all the crap I have to carry around in pockets these days. Phone, keys, reading glasses, sunglasses, wallet, power bank, possibly a charging plug, possibly an iPad and associated gubbins.

It’s not so bad when the weather is bad, my Barbour and various other outdoorsy coats have a reassuring surfeit of pockets, but when it’s warm and I don’t want to wear a jacket I’m sick and tired of bulging pockets.

I’m now old and ugly enough to not give a shit about what people say/think about me carrying a man bag. In fact I use to have one in my salad days when I was going through my pretentious Franco/Italia style phase. It was shit though and fell apart after a bottle of cologne came open in it.

Looking for suggestions for a decent, UK/European made brown leather bag, probably square, cross body and big enough for a iPad. Not a briefcase style. I have a somewhat optimistic budget of around £120ish.

Saw a lovely Italian one in a posh shop in Skipton the other day, but it was like £200, and Claire doesn’t even get to spend that on bags so I’ve got no chance.

I used two different ones for different purposes/loads/weather but both are highly synthetic so I’m afraid I can’t help with the leather thing.

Not leather but I quite like the Topologie range of bags. You can choose straps and have a number of fixing locations.

I have this one.

Yeah, I’m sort of set on a nice leather, and they look a bit big for my needs. Biggest I want is big enough for an iPad and a few bits and bobs like glasses and a power bank.

Inexcusable.

Just carry less. It’s an affectation of modern living to cart useless tat about.

You just need a phone and your wits these days.

I’ve got a few Torro bits and they are really good quality

I’ve had a Hidesign bag for nearly 20 yrs and it’s still as good as the day I got it.

Slightly over budget but they usually have sale stuff in the price range you’re looking at.

Before you get one, google EDC and get the tissues out.
You’ll need a suitcase after.

And therein lies the problem.

My advice is get something made of a decent leather, right shape, and forget the make.
Try to scour the used market.

Are you planning to go on holiday soon Rob ?

If so, save your money and buy a good leather bag in one of the countless wee shops you see in Spain, Greece etc - every bit as good and a fraction of a named brand price.

Back pack or bust.

Have both

See below.

Also years of being a postie have desensitised you from the stigma of carrying a bag around :kissing_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Think you have missed the best of the sale but I like Osprey of London.

On the rare occasion when I need one (Munich show) I have a John Rocha canvas thing which works well. Not sure where it came from, my guess is Gill in a charity shop, but whatever. Seems fairly robust.
