Hey Ritchie @Wayward did you ever get your shears sorted?

This was interesting:

They had better get with the program. As one legendary tailor once put it. " yer fuckin’ customers are at least one of the 4 Cs: cripples, cranks, crooks and cunts, and mostly all 4."

News flash. The people that can afford handmade clothes are mostly bastards. When I say ‘can afford,’ I mean people that order 5 suits at a time as if they are buying some snacks down the offy. These are the people you want as customers. Single wedding orders are ok but not really what you want, you need the whales, and they are all hateful if you think that way. This person is going to be very unhappy if they don’t square themselves with this.

I did, but haven’t finished them off yet. I’ve been too busy.

On the way back from last years Lopwell, I dropped in on @SteadySteve and as an after thought as I was leaving, asked if he could do anything with them. A few days later, they arrived in a box. They look the same, but he had cut the brass thread on the male side off and inserted a steel thread, and on the female side sunk a steel nut inside the brass. Fantastic job! Like I said before, they are potentially my best pair, I just need to clean them up and fettle/ polish them a bit.

They will certainly be a world away from the modern ones! I’m sorry to be a grumpy old git, but I don’t believe those shears in the video are any good. I have picked a pair of them up and they feel all wrong to me. Couple that with the interviewees being charlatans -none of them can hold the fucking shears properly - drives me mad. Then the cutlers actually saying that they don’t have the skills to make them anymore, and that they have to outsource the forging part of the process, but they want to get it back…

It’s these kind of posts that are actually educational. The ‘How to spot a cunt’ thread is long overdue.

It’s kind of a shame that red trouser guy and grey shoe guy are not the same guy…

There is always the ‘still wearing white socks and tassel loafers 80s cunt’

That look came back fairly recently, the woolier sock the better. Kind of an uber preppy thing. :man_shrugging:

Ok, ecru sock, but you get the idea. ‘Ecru’ and not cream coz reasons.:man::grin:

My eyes. Oh my lord.

Fuck, I’m an absolute cunt.

Edit: No way in the world is it worse than that abomination Ritchie posted

Guilty as charged, innit!

Does confuse the shit out of the covert racist cunts around here though…

The Eubank effect.

If I had a pound, etc… :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Yes.

Yes it is.

Even fucking beige socks in ‘elastic’s gone’ finish are better than squelching about in your own toe-jam

When I left school (17) my brother got me a job as a trainee cutter in a clothing factory mainly doing stuff for M&S. But the old guy (a 40 year vet) who was in charge of the cutting room and pattern making was impressed by my artistic leanings and wanted to train me up as a pattern maker.

To cut a long story short I got offered a job with the MoD and left after 10 months BUT thinking back to the stuff he showed me about the hand cutting side of things - the people in that video are really quite bad for so-called professionals.

I could also be thinking back with a rose-tinged wine addled memory of course

Having had the misfortune to visit the orthopaedic shoe thread, it’s mildly reassuring to see the on par response to the classic loafer. I have more time for the preppy end of things than for walking boots that never walk, country brogues in the suburbs, or Oxfords worn anywhere other than an office. But I’m a wierdo
