MEH DIY build

Starting a separate thread as I didn’t want to crap all over @SteadySteve thread.

I went over to his the other day to have a listen and it’s made me want to give a pair a go.

I am tempted to follow this:

His photo:

Several reasons, planned out so easy to get cnc’d, less drivers per cab, 3D printed fancy bits, someone else has done the hard work.

I would have to then look at bass and I have been thinking of one each side which could also act as stands for each speaker.

It’s gonna take a bit of time as I have lots on for a bit, but I’m not talking rabski time scales.

Reasons I am going down this route; having heard a fair few 4 or 5 way horn systems now it’s definitely sound I like and want. For some time I have been trying to think of ways to achieve this without it being too large. I modelled some altec 828s up with different drivers with the thought of adding one or two le cleac’h horns on the top.

But hearing and seeing the multiple entry horns MEH, it’s a very neat why of squishing most of it in to one box and this appeals. Plus it looks like fun to make.

I need is to spend some time thinking about DSP and bass.

DSP as I’m no crossover designer and phasing etc makes it way more complex than I can cope with.

Bass is to fill in from c.60Hz down plus I thought it would make a good stand at the same time. Started looking at Labhorns and keystones. But as I am going to have two I’m not sure I need anything that chonky.

You can never have too many bass drivers, or any other drivers, for that matter. More is better.

Scott Hinson Jericho obvious solution is obvious.

44 pages for that pdf  got some reading to do. From a quick glance, still needs more bass

Twin 18s in a 4’ box. Errrrr no more bass needed.

I got the name wrong too. It’s the Sub of doom/Neman horn.

Ah,I thought you were talking of MEHs as google took me to:

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?id=100057174291834&story_fbid=636200011629136

Which is the guy that did a long YouTube video on his design.

Big sub like the one above probably too much. With big tv in the middle of the speakers and that sits on a bookshelf. So really need smaller ones each side of the TV sadly. Although great sub name.

Yes, the meh in your first post clearly inspired by Hinson’s design. (Even says so in the pdf).

Small =/= Sub :laughing:

Have a look at the Devastator bandpass things on Avsforums. A gazillion designs.

Yeah look at his because his design is better, you have an access point to get to stuff and it’s a simpler build in general.
Plus more graphs :chart_with_upwards_trend: :bar_chart: :chart_with_downwards_trend: than the original

As in the plans? Cause Scott is one of the few who actually knows what he is doing.

From a construction point of view it appears so although I wouldn’t be bothering with the handles.

Either way need to spend some time looking at them both properly and not just on a mobile, when I have some time.

Cool that you are planning on building.

Will follow with interest.

The DIYAudio guys never let the grass grow under their feet for too long.

Here’s perhaps the next evolution of the MEH.

Combining fancy throating profile (did I just write that🙂) and Multi Entry Horniness all in one!

Only really possible as 3d print.

Just build on a bigger pyramid for a pair of 12" woofs and a mouth flare and job done!

Got a 3D model file?

No, but can ask🙂

It’s a 1" throat. I bet those Peerless Tymphany drivers I’ve group buy signed up for would be good for this…
The group buy has achieved 100 units so…

From the poster

“I’ve got a few other variations of this that I’ve printed and tested, but so far this one looks to be the most promising, so I’ll start on a physical prototype next week.”

I’ll be watching that space…

Have you got a link to the thread as I can’t see it?

It’s embedded in the huge
Ath4 thread. Most of which is not MEH related.

Here you go
