Model making

Very nicely finished and nice highlights on the panel lines, not easy with that colour. What scale is that, 1/48?

1/72

Thanks! Its come out ok, couple of fuck ups and the photos really highlight issues, but it looks fine from 3 feet away

Not really highlights on the panel lines, that’s the raised detail for the RAM tape, but it looks quite good as is, I think. I will probably add some weathering and stuff on the main airframe. They’re quite new so don’t need much I think.

I’m most happy with the engine nozzle part, the photo is a bit crap, unfortunately.

Are you going to paint that scheme, or wrap it?

Combo of paint and decals. The red stripes (which I haven’t done yet) and dark blue are painted, the stars and logos/text are decals.

If it all goes wrong it’ll be back to air defence grey.

I’m about three months into this one, on and off. Mainly I’ve been using it as practice for re-scribing as the kit had raised panel lines and I wanted to change them to engraved. Lots of fuck ups and that’s one of the reason for choosing that scheme as it’ll hide the bad bits.

I’m 4 months late to the lego comments 10 posts up.
I flogged my Space Shuttle, Lunar Lander, and Lamborghini last year all 3 were fully built, the buyers said they were going to dismantle and rebuild. Once assembled their appeal dwindles quickly as they become neither use nor ornament. My lego Saturn 5 is hanging on atm, only because I 'kin love the Saturn 5. I will not be buying any more modern lego kits. Bit like building guitars, once they’re done I’m pretty much ready to strip them for parts and make the next one - for me making stuff is about the journey not the destination.

That said. my 6 year old niece got a box load of old random lego blocks and parts for Christmas, no instructions just imagination required, she was over the moon. You can buy it by the KG on ebay, which is great, as the new kits for children have limited scope for creativity.

Completely agree, the joy is in the building. I think Lego sets have become too specialised, all the hard stuff (figuring out how to make the model) is done by someone else and that stunts creativity. I got the Lego Concorde, but it’s sitting in a box because it’s bloody massive and I have nowhere to put it.

That said, it’s still an addiction and I’ll continue to buy sets. :man_facepalming:

I’ve been looking at the big nitro remote control car kits, never done one and fancy a go, it’ll be perfect for pissing off all the neighbours.
I can guarantee its money pit fad status within a fortnight of completion and that it’ll be for sale at great financial loss by the summer. Not going to let that stop me however.

Back in the day, I had the big Tamiya kit of the Jaegermeister Porsche 911 race car. I think it could be built as the Martini race car as well, can’t remember, old bugger brain. It had the working suspension with the coil springs. Loved it.
Anyway, built it over a period of about 6 to 12 months (can’t remember exactly due to old bugger again!) with the detailing thing on all the internals and engine stuff. Then, when it was built I hadn’t a clue what to do with it.
I wanted the USS Enterprise air craft carrier model after that but could never bring myself to buy it.
It’s definitely about the journey.

When i was at university, a skint student with misplaced priorities, I built a Tamiya Subaru Impreza RC, sprayed the body, a proper job with all the rally graphics.
Pissed up with friends I drove it off a kerb, it was instantly crushed by a ford transit van that I didnt see coming the other way.

Some touch ups needed, but overall not too bad.
