Nothing more Tory than telling people not to cower from covid…
And the rapist’s wife was one who suggested that Rashford should stick to penalties, rather than politics.
Oops. This is very worrying:
To put into perspective, what we paid in Germany in taxes to ‘level up’ former East Germany from 1991-2019 per year was some €18.9bn/GBP 16.2 bn (2018 figure):
Why do you think the Tories are desperate to sell off anything of value. We were the sick man of Europe prior to joining the EEC/EU and we will be again, probably within the next 10 years.
And the Tories killed the free press as well. Soon be a crime to receive, let alone publish, government information from whistleblowers.
That’s right, they want to lock up journos.
We know that we live in a dysfunctional shithole of a country.
Why do you feel the need to copy and paste articles from the Guardian reminding us of this every bloody day?
What are YOU going to do about it then?
Morally bankrupt.
Fucking disgraceful.
Move on. Nothing (new) to see here.
I just don’t want to believe that the UK that I love is a shithole country.
Must be my way of dealing with the situation of denial.
I visited England 10 times since my first Scalford in 2014.
That’s 3 times more than Italy where some of my oldest friends live.
We miss the UK and I’m still in doubt whether to return again post-Covid.
That might be a wait the way things are going.
You kidding?
In terms of social welfare we are a hell hole.
Nowhere is perfect but The English establishment is a 14th century throwback like nowhere else.
Denial attempts to save us from the pain of reality… Reality check… Prime = “Of the best possible quality; excellent.”

This is what the majority of the general public see as ‘Prime’.
We now enjoy, ‘The best possible quality’: Racism, Narcissism, and Incompetence in the highest office in the land.
What I don’t get is why so few people in the UK seem to value a simple, decent quality of life for everyone. Many people here seem to think that there should be rich and poor, and that your place at the lower part that hierarchy is mostly deserved.
I that everyone should be mostly comfortable, able to feed their family and live in a reasonable home. Once this is universal, people will be freed up to do the things that they want - study, arts, sport or whatever.
This sort of view seems to be really alien to many in the UK. I’m not sure that I really fit in here.
I remember an interview in the US with a (white) guy living in a tent on a bridge. He praised Trump for being so great and succesful businessman and as such was a great president as well.
Would it go too far, to see this as a sort of Anglosaxon DNA, or a WASP characteristic point of view?
I think that this idea of society is mainstream in North West Europe.
This idea is at least what I have experienced living in NL, D, A. I assume the Scandinavian countries are similar or even better.
I assumed the UK was like this as well, but I found out that I was mistaken.
Are you insane? Who the hell are the Daily Mail going to demonise & vilify if poor people cease to exist?
We have a very envious society, where your personal worth is very much relative to everyone else’s. It’s reinforced continuously by all the ‘look at these’ shows which either show you as well below (grand designs, place in the country, cribs, top gear etc), or well above (all those ch5 progs about benefits etc) so you can place yourself correctly. Then we are all well aware of the cost of everything so your house, car, clothes, tv, holiday etc can all be compared to everyone else to see how you measure up.
Contentment, satisfaction, happiness, are all far more nebulous and, in keeping with our Uk/us spreadsheet management style, get left off the tally as they’re too hard to quantify.
But the constant comparisons in the media are what really drive this. And since I can only be ‘better’ if you are ‘worse’ your very laudable aim of general ‘ok, makes me happy’ doesn’t fit
Oh all sorts. Immigrants, black folk, the entire LGBTQ community and so on
The French. A traditional bellyache that will undoubtedly get trotted out more.
