....more armchair politics (Part 2)

I don’t think she has much self-awarness… (Lol at the comments though)

This is done to intimidate people and suppress free speech

Said without a flicker of irony.

It’s not a good look when, in Opposition, you castigate the Government for cronyism then do the same yourself when roles are reverted.

FFS.

When they do it, it is cronyism. When you do it, it is patronage.

Farage got paid more than Geoffrey Cox!
(I deliberately said ‘got paid’ rather than ‘earned’.)

ASLEf announcing new strikes on LNER, fuck me pink.

Working well, this strategy

Interesting read.
I always thought that the unions were so strong in the UK, as they played a large role in the decline of UK motor industry. Apparently not.

They were the scapegoat for that, but while they contributed, a mix of lousy workmanship, shitty quality control and unceasing lack of investment all conspired to kill it.

Looking at JLR owner surveys, nothing’s changed…

Au contraire, they are magnificent vehicles that everyone should buy so that MrsKettle gets a lovely bonus each year.

Well that’s one perspective, and favoured by those who oversaw the dismantling of the UK manufacturing sector. The unions definitely contributed to the decline in the 70s but there was still another 30 years of chronic mismanagement to go.

My own view from the inside was that it was a long term lack of investment and some very very poor strategic decisions by the so called Execs that fucked over Rover Group and others.

She need not fear - the survey I was reading places them at the bottom of the table for reliability and running costs, and pretty much at the top for owner satisfaction! :open_mouth:

Truly, we live in times of peak cognitive dissonance!

Alfa territory!

One of the the things that caught my eye was that Fiat was top-5 for reliability!

Not sure Alfa sell enough cars in the UK to feature.

Aye, I do think this must be the root cause of the decline.
In the 90’s at uni we had several study trips to Germany and the UK, so we visited among others VW, Rover, Jaguar and Cummins. The Rover Longbridge site was the worst plant we’ve ever seen.

It had some of the oldest production facilities amongst that lot, including the Metro robot line made by Kuka and original Mini with some parts of the body plant dating from the late 50s, so I’m not surprised.

Reminds me of the Dagenham documentary where Ford couldn’t understand how BL could sell the Mini for less than an Anglia. They bought a couple of Minis and gave them to their cost engineers. Turned out BL were making a loss of £40 for each one sold and they didn’t know (around £500 new). British management in much of the post war industry was fucking dire.

Really a pity, as a youngster I quite fancied the Rover Metro and 200 series, while dreaming about SD1.
