My clarinet teacher used to dine out on a tale of returning to a hotel in France years after he and his wife had first visited and immediately being greeted by name.
It turned out that they were very well remembered because they were the mad British who arrived in “la voiture en bois”.

I remember years ago someone who owned one.
He told me one day that it had failed the MOT.
Knowing how much care he took of it I was rather suprised and asked why.
“The curtains were dirty” he said with a grin.
