Mumsnet time: mattresses

That looks suitably firm, haven’t you got a fucking mattress yet? When we got ours just went to one of the warehouse out of town jobs, tried them all out, specced one up and was even able to spec up each half differently, handy for different weights

Flimsy Ikea shit < Fat cunt.

I’ve gone NOS - found (yes, really) a pristine one hidden under the bed - two nights on it and slept better than I have in a while, so gonna use it for a while whilst I try to work-out what I really want longer term - then new.

Anyone have a Simba mattress, my extra firm ortho mattress is making the sciatica worse so I’m on the hunt for a new one and the Simba hybrid looks interesting (and no I’m not paying vispring prices)

Complaints seem to be that it sags very quickly though.

Not Simba but Tempur. SWMBO has sciatica and arthritis (2 replaced hips). She finds our Tempur one very comfortable and it is possible to get them VAT free if you have certain medical conditions. Check with your local supplier if you qualify.

If you’re serious about going on the weight-loss jabs, then maybe hold-off changing mattresses for a bit, just because excess weight definitely worsens sciatica (guess how I know…), so you might end-up going full circle back to an ortho mattress once you get the pork under control.

First dose arrived in the post today

The ortho is staying as I need a mattress for the spare room, if needed I can just swap them round later.

Getting out of bed in the morning is fucking murder at the moment :frowning:

Had a simba mattress, utter garbage and returned after 2 months.
In that time it was collapsing where we lay. Searching online showed it was a common issue.

Got a loaf mattress and no such problems with it.

Same as this

Got them bookmarked for when we need a mattress.

We’ve a Simba. First one had a topper, it sagged badly quickly, they use the useless string across to determine sag with regard to warranty. They’d have dug their heals in only the topper was also next to useless, all of the springs were quickly compressed to nothing. As a result they warrantied with the latest version that didn’t have a topper. Was less expensive and they surprisingly refunded the difference.

The newer one (think it’s 3-4 years we’ve had it) is much better, I have no problem with it at I’m 6ft and 75kg. My wife doesn’t love it, she’s not big but her weight is around her hips and it sags there to a dip with little support. Not enough to get rid of it as yet and we turn it every few days which makes a difference.

So drove to Didcot this morning (waves at Graeme) and popped into Bensons for Beds after some research on-line. We had some questions regarding specs with the “bot” couldn’t/wouldn’t answer.
After laying, rolling, and bouncing on half-a-dozen mattresses, we chose another Hypnos.
The last one has lasted 9 years, and only now showing some sagging and wear. It will go on to be used on the spare bed for a few more years yet.
Overall cost was ameliorated by 25% off, plus a further 10% Black Friday special, then a further 10%discount negotiated locally.
Oi loves a bargain :+1:

Our first bed was a Hypnos. Most expensive bed in the shop (a place in Leamington Spa - it was funny watching the look on the manager’s face when two slightly shabby twenty-somethings made that decision). The mattresses lasted for decades. They’ve been replaced since, which C took care of (current ones aren’t Hypnos, which might have been a mistake), as have the headboards. But the bed bases are, well, still my bed.
