Music on NAS?

I may be missing something obvious here but is there a simple way to listen to the music I have stored on my NAS on my phone?

If you are at home you presumably can just use your phone as a network device and access your music.

If you mean when you are away from home (but hopefully on the internet not on mobile data) then you need to know your NAS IP address and probably have a user name and password

That is how I would do it anyway, but I am not a tech expert

I’m at home, but a technophobe? I guess the ability to access it away from home would also be useful, but atm just thinking about how to access it whilst on my home network. I s’pose I’m asking if I can use my phone as a network player in the same way as I would use my WiiM & amp etc?

I do this a lot - the key is UPNP (Universal Plug n Play).

Install BubbleUPnP, costs a few quid, alternatives are probably available, on your phone to make it a UPNP “renderer” (player).

Your NAS is highly likely to have some sort of UPNP server capability. Synology ships with a basic server product

Just enable / install that, or your NAS’ equivalent.

I found the Synology one to be a bit rudimentary - theoretically implementations should be the same but they’re not, so I bought Asset UPnP

from the same guy who does dbPoweramp. Costs a bit, but man has to make a living. It’s also a bit of a faff to install and even more so to configure at the server end.
