New Listening Room build

When I swap them out I will send you the plywood versions, see what you think.

My thoughts pretty much mirror the comments on here, the current speakers will probably be used at least for a while. Let’s get the room built, and fitted out first.
The Acapellas are great all-rounders, but over the last ten years or so of going to friend’s homes, bake offs, Scalford and particularly Munich, I’ve come to realise that there’s better horn speaker systems out there - both “off the peg” and DIY.
One area in which think I the Acapellas are unbeatable is the top end, so it might be that I keep the plasma tweeters and add mid and bass horns.
Thing is, I’m an impatient fucker, so the DIY trial and error journey Ritchie describes above is not particularly appealing. I’d rather put a lot of effort into the design/decision process up front and get it right first time.

If it’s sooner rather than later, I could borrow the 550 Le C’s😉

Echo Ritchie’s and Simon’s comments.
No way in the world I could afford a sound like I have with ‘off the peg’ speakers.
Getting them to work in rooms that would be impossible with a non settable X/O, non active, non time aligned, non dsp controlled sub bass.
How many nons was that?:slightly_smiling_face:
Then there’s the bass, how many do true room shaking (when the music calls for it) gut / sofa shaking bass, yet have the delacacy and subtle speed to make violins cello, guitars or vocals just seem in the room.
Not to mention the sense of scale.

The speaker configuration of my system has been pretty much stable for years.

I tweak because I can, and I enjoy it. Not really out of necessity.

I don’t think you have to take my journey, just a longer journey than to Definitve or wherever. I couldn’t afford to go straight to where I am (I cant even afford that!) but you can, or a fair bit further.:+1:

What size of horn system is feasible in Jim’s room?

Smaller than if it wasn’t in Norfolk

Haha, sez the man who’s had several massive horn systems in a tiny room… :grinning:

…which, I suppose, is why I’m fairly confident a decent multi horn system can be made to sound great in the new extension! :+1:

I’m sure Adam will get them working fine

It will require a dedicated Pi for every channel for some inexplicable “reason”.

Several

Disappointed by the lack of air scout recommendations

Thrice in 214 posts not enough?

I think they would work really well in there, but then I haven’t heard @Jim 's Acapella speakers, so I don’t really know if they would be a step up or not, despite the scouts being quite something when I have heard them previously

Sadly I have never heard the air scouts, but have heard Jim’s plasma beasts a few times. That tweeter is cool as fuck.

Also, has anyone suggested air scouts yet?

Knock a couple of holes through the wall (bit of weatherproofing needed obvs) and get a couple of these.

Sorted
