As with many tricky situations, it is helpful to ask: “What would Japanman do?”

Solution is obvious, won’t cost anywhere near as much as building works apart from 2 exponential sections through the walls.

Great idea…but I think I can see a flaw :joy:

:joy:…consider them windows with a limited view.

Do you have to build the plan with the most likes? Is this how it works?

That would be great, but unfortunately, the neighbour and planning officer have to like it too…

Joking aside, what about going upwards? The extension will have a fairly tall pitched roof, so plenty of room up there

That makes sense, but to some extent the decision then reflects on the final system.

A straight horn will be better than a J-horn as you increase the frequency, so you can have a J-horn for mid bass but you wouldn’t want to go up into the kHz with it.

S labs hanging from the ceiling?

Jim, possibly good for a J horn/bass but be lovely to get you that really opened out mid, a straight 64hz (unfolded 12a) would do it… how about a discreet lean-to.

This thing about WE snails is they are difficult to build and take serious time to build properly. A straight version or variant much less so. Laminate up to whatever thickness, say 1-2" timber and add some damping cork between layers for luck and cast a throat section from iron or bronze much easier, much less cost and better sound, more space in the room etc etc…spend saved money on a small brewery in the out house with tap on listening room wall.

The aim is good sound and even with the best of circumstances these system are compromises, if you can transfer some compromises to the building all the better. Might get away with 3 way like this.

Why not do:
20-80 lab sub or tapped horn
80-300 huge j-horn
300-6k 555 in an Azurahorn 160Hz le cleach
6k up whatever tweeter you fancy

That’s all horn and 4-way with a nice wide mid. You could split the mid, but going 5-way is more complex, with far fewer off the shelf systems.

The thing you really need to decide is if you want to be a horn geek, fucking about with a multi way system forever, or if you want a product that “just works”. Getting a DIY 5-way will only work as the former IMO, and to some extent that goes for 4-way.

If you want just works then I think you’d be better off with a DIY Everest knock-off (2x 15" bass drivers, lovely wooden front horn, tweeter, 2nd order passive XO), or buy something like AGs.

We’ll all be very happy to help you to put together an insanely complicated system, and never stop giving contradictory advice, but you need to be the person that lives with it. Be honest with yourself.

I want to be a no faff, one time horn geek

See above!
You want all the fuss, delay, lots of fiddling, then change this and that, listen for a day or two, then more faff.
Which of the horn systems on here, has worked most of the time, let alone, all the time.
