If they cover the holes in the top of his head with sellotape, he’ll be good for another 90.

Murray Walker has died. I mean, he was 97 so it’s not exactly unexpected but still. The seminal voice of motorsport.

The end of an era.

That is very sad, he never really gew up in a way, he had the same boyish enthusiasm for motor sport for ever.

That is sad news. There are some people who are so associated with the sport they commentate on that they should go on for ever - Murray Walker, Dan Maskell & Peter Allis all spring to mind.

Very sad. A great commentator, one of the best and he was so much more too.

Like many, I grew up listening to him. For many years F1 WAS Murray Walker. His knowledge, passion, and fumbles were all part of who he was and why we have missed him in recent years.
His relationship with James Hunt was the stuff of legend.
In short he WAS a legend.

Never a motorsports fan, but his commentary made it worthwhile

Murray got so many of us into motorsport, bikes & F1 at a time when TV coverage was prehistoric to say the least.
100% committed, his enthusiasm was infectious even when he got it just a bit wrong.
Putting him in a commentary box with James Hunt & only one microphone could have been a total disaster but they worked it out & turned into a great team, sort of.

Gone but never ever forgotten.
RIP

Retired from commentating in 2001, really!? Has it really been that long, wow.

His enthusiasm was infectious and breathed life into what was sometimes a precision, even back then.

A good innings as they say and a life well lived. Chapeau

I’m stunned he was 97. One of those individuals who rested in the subconscious somewhere. The thought he’s gone has gone and made me feel older myself :slightly_frowning_face:
