Olive oil faff and other bread lubricants

How long does it last?
I don’t mean how many bottles do you drink but once you have opened a bottle what is it’s shelf life?

Yonks

About 3 weeks (house runs on onions, lemons, garlic and olive oil).

I like the fruitiness of

with some nice warm sliced bread and salt.

Imported stuff, using the usual channels (supermarkets), is well beyond it’s best. Find a small producer and get them to send direct if you can.
The difference is unimaginable.

I’m trying to save money not spend more, which I know this will lead to!

Funny thing is I don’t actually like eating olives.

I know this is sacrilage, in this thread, but for those of us, not baking our own bread, this is excellent.
Can only fing it in an M&S food shop here.

Apart from I don’t eat animals and I think you are very much the opposite!

That makes three of us.

I can eat them but I don’t enjoy them.

Not true I’m afraid, the shelf life of an opened (or transparent) bottle of EVOO at its best is pretty short.

Obviously if you live in the arse end of nowhere, one has to compromise on shelf life considerations

Oh well.

You learn nothing from life if you think you’re right all the time. I stand corrected.

Truth is, “fresh” is weeks from pressing. Often days. The difference is stark. You can get some oil that will taste OK for longer, but if you want the best, fresh is the ONLY way.

I’m using the same 5litr oil as you Paul, and it keeps till it’s finished :joy:

as apposed to good.
