If you watched the whole comp the Chinese were worthy of 1st and 2nd
Margins are so tight and British girl had a relatively poor comp.
‘relatively’ being a well chosen word.
The commentators were quite good at identifying where fractions of points were lost
There is unquestiobaly an expectation bias with these judge scored events - see also gymnastics, boxing etc.
Really?
Are you such an expert on these events and how they are marked to have an informed opinion?
Or just a lover of of bollocks conspiracy theories?
When the competitors and coaches consistently disagree with the judges there might be something in it other than ‘armchair expert’ bollocks
I dunno Kev, I’ve competed in these judge scored events and am convinced that there’s a number of times when I was bang on form and favourite to win that I definitely benefitted from some generous scoring when let’s say I didn’t actually deliver the technical accuracy I was awarded.
But at this level it’s probably still a factor but very much in the margins. Discarded scores helps to moderate but so does scrutiny and replay etc.
The eyes of the world are on all these judges.
We either accept that the system works or get rid of anything that isn’t objectively measurable.
There is an argument that the Olympic ideal is ‘faster, higher, stronger’
Not prettiest cutest loveliest.
We are agreeing/ saying the same thing.
Despite being a deeply anti authority teenager I never argued or disparaged a judges decision but I learned some days it goes for you and others against (or maybe it just feels that way).
My mantra was always, if you wanted to win then you should have made it more obvious to the judging panel.
Commentary team/pundits,
The 1500m is a two horse race
The 1500m is a two horse race
The 1500m is a two horse race
The 1500m is a two horse race
The 1500m is a two horse race
Oh, hang on…
Who he??
What the fuck was wrong with marks out of 10? These 15.6 scores or what not strike me as less impressive, clear and a faff too far.
In which We Rate Dogs scores gymnastics.
15/10
Really?
It appears my OCD’s picky. I find the newish scoring conniptive - A bit like when people say they ‘give 110%’… Don’t add shit for the sake of it…
Never. A faff too far is still never enough!
Ohh you’ve got it bad. Want to buy a Koetsu ?
In my dreams yeah, On my budget… Might need to give it a miss.
So doing a routine perfectly gets the same score as another athlete doing a routine perfectly even if one is a triple back with two twists and the other is a cartwheel?
It used to be marks out of ten, it worked. Difficulty levels particularly in gymnastics is always accounted for as part of the scoring criteria.
It didn’t work and caused a massive controversy in Athens
That is why it was changed to give all the components a tarriff and is a much better system.
A faff full man, a man of commitment is happy to re mortgage to get a diamond cantilever, silver D-link cables etc Such a man can say no faff is a faff too far to the bailiffs face. He is wonderfully afflicted and should be celebrated for gallantry and stupidity. The (Hifi) world needs more such colorful characters.
I didn’t know this, I’m furious and penning a particularly pointed letter to Strictly come prancing.
