It’s in Sport. As walking must be, if darts makes it.
There was some chunter in the boots thread and it went a little off topic, so this is for those that want to walk the talk. Or should that be talk the walk?
This is the Durston X Dome 1+. Short carbon poles. Solid inner.
Comes in under a kilo.
I’m still in two minds about overnight treks requiring a tent - the challenge being my need for a CPAP. I have done some investigation, and you can get smaller, more portable ones than the standard one I use, but you need a kilo or more of battery as well. Plus we’re talking something like £700 just for that kit, let alone the tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, etc.
The weight factor is making me think it’s a no go.
My whole pack is single figures.
Everything is stupid expensive. The £39 pad felt like a win and that’s still not cheap.
I have a Kakwa 55 on the way and I want a zenbivy set up. Which makes this all very much an “investment”.
I am aiming for a few weekend outings and the first challenge is the coast to coast.
It might be - went for a training walk today, and shoved an extra 5kg in my rucksack for the ascent. It was definitely very noticeable, but I was also deliberately going at a fairly full on pace, and numpty boy forgot to bring any poles either, which does make a difference. It would be interesting to do a test at a more routine pace.
I’m curious about that Kakwa sack - it looks like it sits completely flat against your back? I fear that would prove horrifically sweaty for me!
Yep. But the ones that sit off the back are not as balanced.
I asked a few questions and figured it’s like that because it’s like that. The air backs are just off setting the load for a little relief.
The decider for me was the lack of faff and the fact it’s made by person that knows what he is doing.
I would like a few pockets but I don’t need a few pockets.
