You don’t need to have an MOT on Fetlar
How far can you go before you do?
From Fetlar you can travel anywhere on Unst or Yell. Once you take the ferry from Yell to the Mainland (Shetland Mainland) you need an MOT
I’ve watched the BBC Shetland series, and the level of violent crime seems alarming. Obviously it’s nothing like the carnage of Midsummer Norton, but still I hope Fetlar is more peaceful.
Take care with what gaseous substances you fill your car with - it could be explosive
Brussels overturned
Exactly that happened to a mate of mine. The lorry didn’t see him, moved into the slow lane and clipped the rear of his Renault 5. The car swung around the front of the lorry but the driver didn’t realise what was happening, it was at night and the Renault was black. I don’t know how long they were pushed sideways for but long enough for all 4 tyres to blow!
Surely you sound your horn as soon as you’re turned ?

I lived there, hope you escape soon
Same happened to Narelle. Handy Cross roundabout, High Wycombe. Lorry decided he wanted to join M40 from the middle lane. Narelle was on the inside. She was pushed for 200 yards.
Really knocked her confidence.
Now whenever we pass a lorry, she grips her seat.
People who’ve never experienced that sort of event have no idea of the effects. They think if you’re come out of it ‘ok’ (physically) then you’re fine.
My friend said that sounding his horn made no difference, the lorry driver couldn’t hear him and I guess that with a fully laden juggernaut in top gear the driver isn’t going to feel much difference when pushing a car sideways. I’m pretty sure, like in the video, a car travelling alongside eventually alerted the lorry driver.
I’ve never really thought about it but given that the main purpose of the horn is to be heard I might have thought there would have been two basic standards for vehicles - one that says a horn has to be loud enough and the other that says the hearing environment has to be quiet enough (that an external sound of a certain loudness can be heard). This immediately throws up the issue of whether exceptions have to made for deaf drivers (probably) and also whether sound system loudness has to be capped (seriously capped - I’ve had vehcles come past me where I’ve been able to hear their music in my car !).

Apparently the noise in the car was incredible. I think the initial impact took out the windows on the driver’s side so the sound of the trucks engine was pretty loud. My Friend and his girlfriend at the time were screaming. Also, four tyres being pushed sideways made for quite a noise, which after they went bang one by one, was replaced by an even louder sound as the rims were ground down by the road surface. There were sparks, He still didn’t stop. Can you imagine?
