Plymouth Cineworld IMAX

There were actually several extremely large cinemas operating in Plymouth until one particular week in 1941.

The one we enjoyed going to (until it closed recently) was the ‘Reel’ cinema which gave the genuine 1970’s experience. Despite being somewhat threadbare it was friendly, almost homely, had a decent sound system & you weren’t assaulted by the noxious smells of crappy fast food as you entered. I really liked going to see films there but I suspect the imminent arrival of the Barcode precipitated its demise. It’s funny however to see the very corporate Vue (which was doing its best to wipe out Reel) having a taste of its own medicine & having to drop admission prices quite significantly in anticipation of the Barcode opening.

Many a Saturday morning spent in there.
The Vue multi screen cinema built away from the city centre killed it off in the end.
It’s now a casino.
