Porridge wankery and other vileness (was Inspiring achievements)

Though it pains me to admit it - he’s right you know :+1:

I hadn’t until now although the energy bars I sometimes make do have toasted oats and mostly the same other ingredients so it’ll be interesting to see how it works in a cereal like this. All the nuts and fruit come from the little wholefoods shelf in our local Lidl so easy to gather together.

I did try making porridge as per the method described in the Nigel Slater video posted here somewhere recently. I have to say it works really well & resulted in a lovely texture. I did like it with the honey, cinnamon, jam combination that the porridge champion suggested as well. Strong recommendation.

That’s how to do make porridge - cram it full of flavours that mask the unpromising base. I’ll try that recipe.

The very best use of porridge oats is, of course, to make cranachan, which is a joyous thing.

Porridge made with water and salt, then a handful of frozen blueberries (wild, of course) and a glug of maple syrup - yum!

I’d never heard of it until now. looks promising.

It’s even better than it looks, and really easy to make.

Plus it has whisky in it.

And raspberries.

Bloody lovely.

And is best eaten after a mahoosive mound of haggis.
