I really like this idea, the boy is currently considering the various forms of apprenticeship that are available. A lot of kids are unsure of leaving themselves paying an extra high tax rate for life to pay off their student loan.
SiL worked in colour for Merrill shoes. I suspect every season there was a whole discussion about future trend predictions for 3 years in advance to give procurement lead times before they decided on brown again.
She’s apparently been thinking that Uni wasn’t her thing for a while.
So, unbeknown to Claire and me, has been looking at this level of apprenticeship for Interior design and something called interior architecture, because basically she’s used to earning money, and hates the idea of university level debt, whereas going this route she can be earning a living, building experience and a career all at the same time.
This was entirely her own reasoning, and she also understands that she is somewhat high maintenance and Only Fans isn’t her bag…
She then decided that, you know, designing show houses or offices might not be what she wants to do. She wants to make stuff, and travel the world, and experience a bit of glam. And she loves F1.
So wtf not go for it?
I’ve always told my girls to do something they want to do, Doesn’t matter if they’re not going to be rich, as long as it pays the bills and they’re happy getting out of bed every morning. Both of them are going for it. I’m pretty proud of that.
I can really understand this nowadays. When student loans were a few grand and low interest, they were not much of an issue. But now it’s a life-changing amount; £50k is common even among non-medics. You pay off hundreds of pounds every month and it keeps going up.
And even without the money aspect, getting more independence from your parents is probably achieved with a job, rather than university. Realistically you’re kinda living at home either way, but one way you make your own money.
