I’m going to be significantly changing my drinking habits and have been away from the red wine scene for a good few years, so looking for advice please.
I’m looking for a smooth, fruity red, not too tannic or dry at a reasonable price (<£10 say).
We drink a bit of Pinot Noir, Cotes du Rhône and Cotes du Village all of which is freely available from the likes of Tesco for well under £10, particularly when the do 25% off for six bottles. Virgin Wine is quite good too although better for mahoosive Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon from Straya.
I’ll pm you with labels when I get home as I can’t remember any of the run of the mill £6 bottles we drink over a couple of nights in the middle of the week.
Get ye self down to Aldi or Lidl. Choose a “new World” wine under £10, sit back and enjoy.
Once you discover a style that you like, Google is your friend, and investigate more interesting versions from other wineries.
You really have to be a complete numpty to buy bad wine these days.
Also if you shop at Tesco look out for when they have their 25% 6 bottles or more deals, maybe once a month but only for a day or two - I tend to stock up when this comes around.
Given your rehab, just keep an eye on alcohol levels between wines which in red typically range between 12-14.5%, and total consumption level. I recommend buying smaller glasses!
Join The Wine Society and go to their wine tastings or order a mixed case taking advantage of the free delivery. The you will choose what wine you prefer.
@crimsondonkey Wayne, the plan is to totally ditch beer drinking and go with half a bottle of red on Tuesday and Saturday evenings, which tend to be my dedicated music listening evenings.
