This is one of my recent batch of 15 IPS tapes - just haven’t got round to finding the time to duplicate this to new tape stock (SM900 or LPR90) and 192/24 digital archive.

The 7.5 ips commercial release sounds pretty good. I got one from some Ukrainian guy who’d in turn bought it from the accumulated assets of a closing down studio in London.

Pfft, this is what you really really want.

Fantastic, no tape included so you don’t have to listen to it.

Thankfully, the tape was destroyed

Time to get my Technics properly serviced by Stephen I think. Will look to get it booked in next few weeks if possible.

I’m interested in getting mine serviced by him too, I’d appreciate knowing what the cost are like.

How does the Ziggy reel sound?

Frustratingly I haven’t tried it yet - my deck is being temperamental, I’m gutted, hence wanting a quick turnaround at Stephen’s I hope.

I plan to have the Nagra IV-S serviced and calibrated when I eventually dig it out of storage…

Just out of interest does anyone know a trustworthy R2R expert that is closer to Chesterfield than Wayne’s guy?

For those who don’t know who is being referred to -

Vintagetech, service and repair of reel to reel tape recorders

Peaslake, Surrey.

This guy (Kevin) repaired a Tascam Porta Studio (Cassette driven) for my FoL. Seemed very capable. Would be happy to recommend him for other electronic repairs. Worth asking if he’ll do an R2R. I suspect he would.

I use Simon Griffett at Audio Related in Bucks. SG looks after the machines at AIR, Abbey Road and many other pro recording studios. Given his prior background, he does offer servicing on site as well as collection of machines.

I got SG’s name from Simon Heyworth (of Manor Studios fame). Stewart Emmings (Lodgesound) used to look after my machines, until he sadly passed away 3 years ago at the age of 49. SH was a good friend of Stewart’s and recommended SG after Stewart passed away. SG repaired my Studer A820 a couple of years ago, which belonged to Stewart.

What happened to Stewart’s decks Charlie? He had some fantastic gear iirc.

That’s who I bought my Teac off.
