Well
It’s better than any vinyl copy of this album I’ve ever heard. Instrumentation is much clearer, but why they could not make a better job of recording Carole king I don’t know, great songs recorded with little care. Still an enjoyable listen. It is good but not as good as some 7.5ips I’ve had.

Playing Tapestry again this afternoon. You’re right, it’s certainly much better than my vinyl copy. Real weight to the piano. For some reason the tape didn’t grab me when I first played it, & sounded dull. Maybe the heads needed a clean that day because it’s sounding very good now.

Any LPs I’ve run across that have the term “mono enhanced for stereo” printed on them have sounded universally terrible. The worst.

Never listened to tapestry

Nor me, but it has such a big rep I keep thinking I should find a copy

You will have heard quite a few of the songs. You also have to put yourself, a bit, into the heads of those who it really appealed to 50 years ago But it is still a fine record.

Nor me, any Carole King in fact, on any format.

Don’t feel like I’ve missed anything though.

Yes, I also only listened to sgt pepper the other day. Is the first time I’ve listened to a beatles album

Think it’s because they were played so much on the radio in the 60s and 70s,ive never felt the need

Tapestry is a masterpiece.

Nothing else.

we agree - we saw her play the whole album live a few years back Hyde Park

Just having a first go at this, having been aware of it for years due to James Taylor covering some of her tracks in various formats. So far, it’s absolutely sublime.

It gets better right to the end

Not only an absolute joy in and of itself, but also the perfect example of how to write successful songs. Four of the twelve tracks reached no 1 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart, although Will You Love Me Tomorrow was the Shirelles’ version, which came out before King’s.

Loved the Shirelles record. Great song writing but I prefer the cover versions.

Palestine :rage:

Not my usual schtick (obvs) but it’s beautifully written and performed. King had honed her song writing skills with Gerry Goffin as a staff writer in the Brill Building “music farm”. By this stage, she had hit a sweet spot.

It’s an absolute-stone-cold-classic.
