Maybe, but third, fourth or whatever generation master, high speed duplication (not great for high frequencies) and cheapest tape and reels they could get at quarter track do not make for a premium product.
Perhaps not but I’ve quite a few Decca & RCA classical tapes where I also have the 1st press vinyl and the tapes are consistently qualitatively better sounding. If they’d been released at 2T 15 ips, no doubt they’d have been better still but unfortunately they generally weren’t.
I doubt there are any absolutes here, there are sill variables involved in tape: tape quality, transfer quality, equipment, age etc etc will all have a bearing but overall the process of manufacture is superior to vinyl.
Tape faff is best faff.
Tape. I likey.
Listen, I’ve got no money. Can’t we start posting about the insane quality of something cheap?
Fuck the truth.
You are Boris Jonson and I claim my £5.
He probably has expenses for tape.
The reason why you shouldn’t get into tape is that it makes you spend a fiver on items like this.
On the plus side it’s a demo tape so should be good & it was made by Sony.
On the downside, I’ve no idea what it’ll contain. maybe some 3 Blind Mice style Japanese Jazz but possibly something even worse!
Blind punting - Thrill or woe? We need answers when this comes through
I almost bid on that!
Glad you won it. Interested to hear what’s on it.
Like mince pie punting, but more expensive
I rest my flimsy case. It’s the road to insanity.
Have you played that 7.5ips jazz tape yet Guy?
Only one version of it so far. It’s pretty good if not quite in the alarmingly real way the Ramsey Lewis one is. I’m interested to see if the other version is any different at all.
Ooh remind me which Ramsey Lewis one you have?

One more play of the Donovan tape later today and I’ll post it out to you tomorrow morning.
Best of luck Stu
