Roksan Xerxes, more problems

Well, I haven’t used the TT for a month or so but last time I used it it was working fine. I just tried it this morning and the belt keeps flipping off. The belt seems to be riding very high on both spindle and sub platter, which seems very strange to me. Any suggestions? Apart from the obvious one, BIN IT!

Is the motor pulley, adjustable, on the motor shaft?

No

Maybe some help, here.

is the plinth sagging, old issue with Xerxes?

Thanks Greg, I am a bit surprised regarding the top plate sag. The top plate is 25mm MDF which I would have thought would be pretty rigid, I need a steel ruler to check fr flatness.

What I can’t understand is that it worked fine a month ago. I’m guessing that the sag would make the belt ride lower on the sub platter, but that’s the opposite of the problem.

Zero sag.

…no sag, but if your level is accurate, it’s well out-of-level. Could that be the issue?

Bin It.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow: mmmm … could be because it’s been removed from the TT

I’ve removed the Tabriz and mounted it on my 11X, it sounds great but it’s mega sensitive to footfall

Ah, that wasn’t obvious in the pic :slightly_smiling_face:

Obviously

Thus from the Hoffman Forum, might be of help.

I wouldn’t be too fixated on the exact clearance of the top board with the wood surround. If the deck previously needed correction due to plinth sagging there may be some minor variations in fit of chassis components. The main thing is that there IS clearance so that the surround does not touch the top board when playing a record. I would lower the blobs if that is what correct running of the motor drive demands, but first you need to see what level the belt runs on the inner platter. The blobs shouldn’t be too high or too low. The important thing is that they are free to wobble slightly in their threaded fixings.
The belt ride height is adjustable. Yes try to get a qualified Roksan agent to do this, but if you are confident with mechanics it’s not too complicated. With the outer platter removed run the motor and first check the height of the belt around the inner platter. The belt should run mid point around the flat edge of the inner platter or with at least a couple of MM of inner platter showing below the belt. If the belt is too low on the platter but high on the pulley you need to lower the blobs first or any adjustment will throw the belt off. If the belt height looks ok or high on the platter then proceed to the motor adjustment.
Under the turntable base there should be a hole in the MDF base under the motor area towards the platter side of the motor. This hole gives access to a small Allen key/hex bolt under the motor mounting that adjusts the vertical angle of the motor. This adjustment alters the ride height of the belt. Only a small movement makes a big difference so only make small incremental changes. If the belt runs too high on the motor pulley the bolt needs to be unscrewed slightly. The belt will then slowly ride down the pulley. The belt should run mid point between the top of the pulley and the bottom flange with a small clearance above the bottom flange of the pulley. If after doing this the belt runs too high or too low on the inner platter then adjust the suspension blobs accordingly.

Thanks Bob, I’ll give that a go
