No second motor to turn a non-connected volume control in the other direction?

I have to say…that I don’t think I would contemplate a pre without a remote. I am a sod for continually increasing the volume. Plus the wife comes in and wants to ask me something of vital national importance, so I need to mute it pdq.

 I happily got up off my fat arse for the first year of ownership, despite it being the first pre I’ve owned without a remote (until now) can’t even remember the last one.

What has necessitated the change is my listening habits since I started streaming from Qobuz. I have a favourites folder with many tracks from new albums, which I like to shuffle play so I don’t know what’s coming next. Problem is tho, recording levels vary so much, volume needs adjusting pretty much with every different track.

Getting up off my fat arse between albums I can handle, but every track…..:grimacing:

Did the Valhalla psu get included that early or has someone had that fitted later ie 1980’s?

It’s got a Lingo PSU which is the same button as the Valhalla (45rpm doesn’t work though)

Apart from the motor and PSU change everything else looks original

Thought the serial number was 39 but a photo shows the other digits and it’s 3639 so actually a 1974 model.

No, I think Valhalla is roughly the same vintage as me (‘79-80). The PSU before that was very simple and Linn basically swapped them out for Valhallas if they failed much after the early 80s even if owners weren’t persuaded to upgrade them.

A few years ago, when HFN reviewed the then latest and greatest Klimax spec LP12, the sample Linn sent was an extremely early ‘73 model that had been upgraded to the current model. This had that original PSU fitted originally and I think there was brief talk about what it was versus the new DC thunderbastard they offer now.

Totally get it - that drives me up the wall but 90% of my listening is vinyl anyway.

Bit confused here.

When I upgraded my old LP12 from Valhalla to Lingo I had to have a new button as it had a light to show it was running in 45 rpm.

My Linn dealer did the upgrade and gave me all the parts he removed and it included the old button.

It looks like a valhalla button in the photo as you can’t see the second LED so I’m guessing that’s why Guy thought it was a valhalla

Not sure why 45 isn’t working on mine as the ad showed both the red and green LEDs lit.

Not bothered as I won’t be using it

When you said 45rpm wasn’t working and I read the button that was the first thing that popped in my head.

My LP12 was of a similar vintage to your one and I upgraded to Cirkus and Lingo - a part of me sort of regretted it as it lost some of it’s fun.

It’s been 15yrs since I had an LP12 but I think this sounds better than the fettled one I had.

This still has the original black bearing and the heavier outer platter with felt strip etc.

Not sure if it’s not having listened to any records in a while but fuck me this LP12 sounds good.

It’s shocking just how flat and compressed streaming Qobuz sounds compared to a 50+ yr old fruitbox.

I have since rejigged things as Rega strongly advise against leaving the pre directly atop the power amp due to heat reasons. Now waiting for things to warm up a bit, as they were like ice-blocks when they arrived this morning.
