The wheels under the Wilson are for transport/positioning only. I understood Wilson is not amused if their speakers are demoed on wheels. I assume you saw that at a dealer, I did see that once, but never saw it at shows.
I expect it won’t have a positive impact on SQ.
They can make Williamson’s worse?
I essentially never go to dealers (maybe three or four times since, say, 2000 and then mainly to pick up counter stuff). But it could definitely have been moving/positioning them at a show.
You of all people should know that front-ported speakers do room integration - and close-to-wall placement - much better than rear-ported.
As for castors - why the hell not? So long as they’re solidly made. On a flimsy suspended floor they could even sound better - I prefer the sound of decoupled speakers on such flooring personally, and the rubber wheels will give a smidge of decoupling.
These are M8-threaded - it’s likely a decent-sized pair of floorstanders will use M8 spikes, so these should bolt-in where the spikes go:
We use wheels on a milling machine that also has four adjustable footers that are in place instead of the wheels once in position.
Should be easy enough to make a platform for each speaker
Exactly why I went for front-ported speakers as I knew ideal placement was out of the question.
Adding the LP shelving has, I think, improved the sound. I guess fewer reflections off that wall?
That would have required me to spot that the Revels were front ported ![]()
Shahinian Obelisks are designed with castors as standard, and plenty of evidence proving swapping from them degrades sound quality, similar to comments here about decoupling I assume.
With your revels it would be stability I’d be concerned about, centre of gravity etc, maybe fashion some outriggers with castors?
They look my kinda speakers TBH, and for sure, anything you do that adds ‘texture’ in a room should help break-up reflections ![]()
Looks like a stonking room Gareth - love the vaulted ceiling ![]()
Thanks Jim, we had it built a few years ago and we spend a lot of time in it.
Daytime shot
I can’t unsee a face in that pic
You can put the exercise bike away again now
.
I also would like it to disappear…
Very Marvin face ![]()
I think there might be a bit of chest thumping here!

Just a bit !
Still, it seems he has to spend time in Florida (pace @edd9000
) so his world isn’t perfect.
I DON’T THINK THERE’S MUCH READING GOING ON IN THE LIBRARY
I’m not even Googling - WANT.
Florida and Cape Cod, but no mention of a yacht with matching Vox Olympian woodwork…
There’s bragging, and then there’s Murrican bragging.
