I struggle to notice any difference with cables, but the one company I have noticed is chord.
Don’t know if it’s possible, but they made my cd player sound louder when using an interconnect years back.
Also got some chord speaker cable recently, and it sounds awful, didn’t realise that was possible, which reminds me,I must put them in the classifieds.
~20 years ago I bought a pair to try - anyone who foolishly generalises that “cables make no difference” needs to hear these in a system, because they practically mute it, like throwing a thick woolly blanket over everything, as well as skewing tonal balance weirdly.
None of which is a surprise, because they are basically like using a low-value resistor in-line! Complete crap!
No I’m thinking of that painful gimboid who kept spamming about carbon interconnects and then lacked the self awareness (funny that) to shut up as he got gang bullied in the playground. I think he then donated a pair to the Wam show raffle which became an unwelcome booby prize.
We might all have had a few beers. Then came the time for the draw.
Someone mis-read his ticket and wandered up when James called a number only to be sent (light-heartedly) packing. The prizes were distributed on a ‘take what you most fancy’ basis and the carbon interconnect had already been the subject of some, er, comment.
Matey was half way back to his seat when a voice from the crowd shouted “Give him the carbon interconnect”. A perfect moment .
Been toying around with the idea of a cheapy 2nd System, ideally based around an AI 300 for a while now.
I haven’t been able to find a decent one yet, so went with Paul @unclepuncle’s minty MkI AI Alto. I’ve also just bought a minty pair of JPW AP2’s, which were serviced and refurbed end of 2022 and look really nice.
I have a few period sources, so just need to find myself some speaker stands and we’re good to go.
I’m doing a similar thing for the office - have reclaimed my amps from nephew (he’s gutted!) and now pondering what record player would match the early 80s styling of the Pioneer Z series.
