Although the “rebuilt to latest standard” bit may include any tweaks to bias resistors from the change.
Do you think it should be on the lawn? ![]()
Oooooh I’d be interested in how you find it.
Excellent Al. It improves just about everything tbh. Not night and day but certainly noticeable. Bass is just a touch cleaner (less overhang ?) and separation is a bit better defined are probably the two most obvious. I guess that equates to more focus / less smudge ? ![]()
First impressions - wow
. Really impressed. All the dynamics combined with smoothness and a very 3D sound.
Currently rocking Kraftwerk at 95 db and it sounds glorious.
First dibs when you’re bored with it.
It sounds fantastic with the Hecos, it won’t be going anywhere, anytime soon.
First dibs when you’re bored of it ( not anytime soon by the sounds of it ) or fancy a little loan. Ihave a feeling it will be the last piece of the jigsaw, just not had the funds . Once the garden is done this summer I will be on the lookout.
Probably go for SIT3 but who knows
If you aren’t in a rush you can buy the VFET kit I got off Ed and ask Dan Henry (the guy who shamelessly sells the clone amps on ebay) to build it for you. I was going to get him to do it for me but have no use for it now.
I’ve had a SIT-3 here with the horns and frankly this slays it. Not even close
I bought this to compare with my SIT monoblocks which have Sony VFETs surrounded by heavy foo. Either work really well with the AGs as they’re only pushing the horn which is a piece of piss, and both have very little to fuck all gain which is ideal for me.
Next up - a DHT preamp.
As in the robsterd numbers ? If so i had them before you but just not enough to drive the primes well hence the Sit3 outlook. The match is the hardest thing to get
As I sent to @J_B earlier.
“Most early 500’s ended up failing & repeatedly being sent back. When we were based in Weymouth it was more cost effective to strip out the old rat’s nest & just completely build a new amp (new boards/proper layout) inside apart from the transformers & power supply rather than keep trying to fix the older mess. We’d actually do that without telling the customers! It was probably quite expensive short term but it stopped them coming back over & over so it saved money/time in the end.”
Yep the RobsterD SITs, they’re perfect for my horns where the bass is active and so the amps are really only having to do c 300 Hz and above.
This Zen Mods ‘SissySIT’ is a clone of the Pass SIT-3 but using Tokin SIT instead of the Semi South ones which I think Pass used. (The RobsterD SIT monoblocks use Sonys).
It is also switchable so you can either use the JFET front end buffer, or if using a preamp with very low output impedance (<1) then you can drive the Cinemags directly. Currently its the Dartzeel through the buffer, but after that I’ll be experimenting with this DIY jobbie -
[FS] - DHT preamp - Nobsound (Douk) E6 rebuild | pink fish media
Hopefully get a chance today for a longer listen across a wider range of music.
EDIT: The Tokin SIT used in the SissySIT is a THF-51S not the 2SK180 pictured above.
I’ve long wanted to build a pre with a 300B (or 2A3) ![]()
Nice ~500 Ohm output impedance, gain of about 3, vast headroom ![]()
Plus it annoys the 300B power amp owners ![]()
I’m sure Rabski will help you out ![]()
Or take out the gain with a transformer for lower output impedance and the opportunity to give Slagle more money?
I have had 26, 45 and 2A3 DHT preamps, they were all very nice.
I have a bunch of 26 for when i ever get around to building one again
26 is lovely, just has high Zout, so needs care.
There’s also the 71A which should work nicely. Have you looked at the 30/31/1H4/1G4 battery tubes as well? 31 looks great for a preamp tube.
I also have some WE 101L which look nice for a preamp.
I have some 30, 31, 71A, 301A, 37 and 45 all sat in a box next to a load of type 26, all dating from my dht preamp rabbit hole period, oh and type 80 rectifiers
Also have output transformers, TVCs, gyrators and CCS things…
One day
Maybe
Or use them as input valves in a 3 stage power amp ![]()
Too many options, not enough time
Haha, you’re as bad as me. (Probably worse!)
37’s not a DHT tho’
I assume that was a test ![]()
I also want to do an all WE amp (102, 101, 275A)
