There is an appreciable uplift in detail, bass (and the control of the bass), as well as a fantastic soundstage.
Very bloody nice
What (if anything) has it replaced?
I have the CDT2/iii - which replaced Pro-ject’s top CD transport - the Jay’s was significantly better in every way.
If you fancy lugging it down here for the bakeoff, I’d love to hear it ![]()
Cyrus xt signature transport (effectively for sale if anyone interested).
Happily bring it with me, but do you really want me to?
Like you, I still retain and play a lot of CDs. I started off buying them so they reflect what I have since bought on vinyl.
This is to set me up for when I’m too lazy to do the faff with a TT.
I’ll inevitably buy one one-day anyway, so may as well hear if it’s any different!
Anyone wanting a silver Jays CTD3 mk1 for peanuts let me know ![]()
impressive to find one in such good condition, particularly the packaging. Looks like a Brighton made sample so will have the Hinchley transformers. 5881 output valves too which were generally very robust.
Lovely ![]()
Very nice ![]()
That’s nice to know Guy ![]()
It’s sounding great ![]()
Not seen one with manual and box before
Always nice to get documentation, usually a good sign it’s been looked after
Just noticed that it says EL34s on that diagram, but they are 5881s in the amp.
Mine were changed from 34s to 5881. No idea if they could just be dropped in,or if tweaks had to be made. Guy or someone will be along soon to explain
EL34 & 5881 are all part of the 6L6 family and largely (though not always) interchangeable.
