We got my daughter the Beats ones which seem pretty good
Iāve no idea what they sound like; I didnāt get as far as pairing them with a phone.
I just donāt like the sensation of something in my ear
Kind of rules out in ear headphones then
Yup. You donāt know until you try.
Applies to the insertion of so many different things in so many different orifices to be fair.
Looks a nice bit of kit Simon - let me know how it gets on with the 1990ās.
Iām actually using the Lake People amp still at the moment so going ADI-2 ā G109-S ā DT1990, and it sounds utterly sublime and effortless. I havenāt even started playing with the multitude of options you can do with the ADI-2.
Itās not something I particularly need as my Cayin amp runs them superbly but thereās still an itch there
I still canāt get away with just how good the 1990ās - their low volume performance is exceptional.
All my headphones just love the G109-S amp and it really showed the differences in DACs so thatās why I bit the bullet on it.
The DT1990 are just amazing, not sure they are better than my other phones, I really like all of them but thereās something about the DT1990 - an honesty that just lets the music flow naturally that just makes me want to keep listening to them. Pretty sure these would show any changes you make in your system, good or bad. My advice would be leave alone if youāre happy.
New cart on the Fidelity Research FR24 now do I leave it there or shove it on the Moerch UP4 which currently has an AT760SLC mm
Straight on moerch Iād say, but then again donāt listen to a fanboi
Good youāre a fanboi
Iāll be picking your brains re the Moerch
I need to fettle my UP4. I played the HiFi test record on it before Christmas and my channel separation is off. Any tips gratefully received.
Will do
Love in this home on ice
Nobbing about with this today - I enjoyed the Miyajima Zero 1mil Mono cartridge so Iāve been kindly loaned a Miyajima Infinity which is more substantial physically and in sound it transpires.
As a true Mono there is bugger all compliance, the thing tracks at 2.4 - 4 g with a ārecommendedā 3.5g. In short, this cartridge can effectively re-plough record grooves if not set up correctly. With some faff the set up went OK (Will faff more) the sound on some pre 1965 recordings is āfull fatā by this I mean there is a phenomenal sense of body & atmosphere to the sound (Not bloated though) . It sort of reminds me of the Shindo cart I had which offered similar fullness & tone but without typical colourations of a stock SPU. Perhaps not for everyone but I play a lot of Monoās - so dedicated Mono carts are worth the faff (Mostly)
A quick one avec compressed, digitized loss.
Even on my laptop that sounds good.
Google USB C to 3.5mm jack āadaptorā i.e. a vanishingly small DAC.
Bought out of curiosity more than anything.
Iām not sure thereās much difference between it and the several Ā£200-type thumb DACs I have, other than the more expensive ones being louder / higher output and so capable of driving nastier headphones.
I had to buy one of those to connect my cans to my Pixel 4 phone a few years ago, and had a similar experience when I went to RS and tried a DragonFly, Cyrus soundKey, Audiolab M-DAC Nano. Was hard pressed to tell a significant difference (although I was using Spotify (highest quality setting) as my source, so maybe that mitigates a lot of the difference). I came in wanting to spend money to get a better experience, but left feeling I really couldnāt justify the cost given the incremental improvement. That said Iām still curious to try a Chord Mojo and a DragonFly Cobalt at the top end of the spectrum.
